Shaker High School was probably the best thing that ever happened to me in my life. I went to a small middle school outside the district and I had the choice to go to shaker and I took it only because my friends were going to that school, I had no idea the amount of opportunity and growth I'd have at my disposal at this school. When I entered the school it was overwhelming with how many students were in my class and all the different classes they offered but I had a great councilor and friends who helped guide me to what I'd be interested in. At shaker I discovered my passion for art and architecture and now that's the field I'm majoring in. Shaker does have it's issues but what school doesn't. Overall I'd say Shaker is the best high school in the NY capital region. The teachers care about their students and are invested in our success. I'll never forget the kindness and support I experienced from them all. In the end I have no regrets with my experience at Shaker High School.
What I like about Shaker High will be memories with the friends I have made. I was not a part of the north colonie district before I started high school. Starting freshman year with not knowing most of the kids was tough. A lot of the kids knew each other from middle school leading up to them still being friends in high school. From freshman year to now, I have made lifelong friends who I hope to still know and talk to in the future. I am thankful to say that I have the most amazing friends who talked to me, making me feel loved and appreciated. They were the ones who stood by me and lifted me up when I fell down. I valued their friendship because they made me feel like I didn't have to keep everything inside and my problems could be shared. That is a memory I will look back on many years from now because I can count on them when needed and they will be there like friends should be.
Shaker offers many diverse courses, including forensic science, FACS, Inequality in America, creative writing, and orchestra. I have had very few teachers that I did not get along with, however many people have had a different experience. Administration is ok, sometimes it feels like they don't understand what it is like to be a high school student. While they do have an extensive music department, much of the equipment is old because more money goes into sports than music.
