Shaker Heights High School makes a huge effort to provide its students with every resource they need to to be successful in their academic and personal lives.
While the Shaker Heights High School can be improved there are many good things about it. The academics are good with lots of different options between honors, AP, IB, and fun electives to take. The sports are also a lot of fun whether you are participating or just watching a game. I had so much fun on the field hockey team as it was a great community and was a great way to make friends. There are also many art/music classes you can take (orchestra, band, photography, jewelry, painting, etc). I was in orchestra all four years of high school and it was so much fun. Shaker is also filled with a lot of open-minded people who want to make a change in the world. However, sometimes there are issues with staffing for students with IEPs (not all but some) and there are fights that occur within the school. Overall though I had a good experience at Shaker.
Shaker Heights High School was the first level of Shaker Heights schools I attended, and I've been told I was blessed to not attend the middle school. When I initially toured the high school, I knew I wanted to go there. The academics are all fine but I had the most fun with the theatre program and on the crew team - both of which could stand to be funded a little more, especially the theatre program. The football team is not good enough for how much money goes into them. Also I think more classes should utilize the courtyard, it's nice.
The Shaker Heights community is very close knit. Alumnae remain involved and it’s not uncommon to see them at school events supporting their Alma Mater.
Teachers are supportive and connect well with their students. The district is awesome with communication with weekly updates and text messages with more urgent information.

My overall experience at Shaker Heights High School was great. I learned many things they prepared me for life after high school and college. It was diverse I met a lot of people during my time there the teachers were absolutely wonderful. I graduated in 2020 and I didn't get to have a prom or graduation, but the school hand delivered our cap and gowns and such a cool way by calling our names out on a megaphone and delivering it to our house they also gave us a shaker heights cookie and blanket. For our graduation they had everyone make a video for our graduation video and a lady from Pixar spoke at our virtual gradation. Lastly, they threw us a 1-year class reunion with food trucks and raffle prizes it was great.
I've gone to shaker all my life and it is a very diverse bubble. The neighborhoods are nice and quiet, and at the school, you are sure to meet and make many friends. The teachers are very helpful and there are over 100 different clubs to choose from and join if you want. Many sports teams as well from football to e-sports, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
The school is good and the curriculum is good, aside from the fact that there should be more classes offered related to the real world. One of the best aspects of not only this school, but the whole district is that it is very diverse. There are people of every race, ethnicity, religion, etc. That is a great thing, however it doesn't reflect the real world which could be an problem for when we go off to college. The teachers, for the most part are very helpful and are good at what they do. I loved playing football and rugby at Shaker, even though we could use more school spirit for games and pep rallies. One thing the school does have problem with, however, is pushing minorities to enroll in higher level classes. There is a very wide gap and in most of the honors and AP classes I take, there aren't many people that look like me and it isn't right. But other than that, the school is really good and I would encourage parents to enroll there kids here.
I learned many things there, met many new people and experienced many different things that I probably won't get to see again. I enjoyed the adults I have met, the faces I have learned, and the things I have went through that has shaped me who I am today.
Shaker heights high school is en excellent high school in terms of preparing its students for success in college. In terms of academic resources, the school is outstanding. However, not all students in the shaker community have equal opportunity, and measures to ensure that the opportunities that shaker offers are distributed evenly would improve the school for all its students.
Shaker Heights High school has a great group of teachers and provides students with the tools and skills for college.
I liked the diversity and various programs they had to offer. I did not like how they show favoritism too many of the students and overlooked or discounted others.
Shaker Heights is known for its diversity and commitment to equal opportunities. The exposure to different racial groups was educational and invaluable. Overall, the teachers are dedicated to helping their students find good futures. The social structure is relatively harmless. The one thing I disliked about my time in Shaker was that though people were focused on racial issues, it didn't really feel inclusive to minorities other than African Americans.
I graduated last year and I can easily say that my time at Shaker Heights High School was amazing. I'm a really artistic and musical person and I found that there are so many art and music classes open to students that other schools don't provide. The diversity is also amazing for a person of color like me, and it makes for a very inclusive high school experience. Overall, the academics are also really great. They're the perfect balance of being demanding but manageable. As a current college freshman, I can definitely say that Shaker has prepared me well for the demands of higher education.
My experience at Shaker Heights High School overall has been great. There are many learning opportunities, as well as plenty of clubs and activities to join. I have been pushed to take harder classes, which has benefitted me in the long run. The only thing that I believe is a problem, is the class diversity. Being a minority, I would like to see people like me in my classes, and there simply isn't. There is definitely a racial divide throughout the classes, sports teams, and clubs.
Over the last 20 years I've noticed that Shaker High School does not hesitate to send kids of color to the basement, where students may or may not be academically challenged. If you have a child of color, make sure you stay on your child's education and ask questions or your child will more than likely spend their entire high school education away from the "normal" kids.
I graduated from Shaker and overall liked my time there. However, I feel that some classrooms could be updated.
Shaker Heights High School is a great high school. Like other districts and schools, they have their flaws but they have tried to work on them the best they could.
