There were a lot of changes during my four years, primarily with administration that will hopefully serve for the better (thus my three stars). As someone pursuing an art-related field however, the district offers an enormous variety of art classes with phenomenal teachers and resources that are on par with private art-focused high schools.
My #1 critique however is the need to diversify classes. The student body itself can be called diverse, however outside of the theatre, arts, and creative writing classes, you don't see much of that diversity. They're currently training teachers and staff with equity practices, so I'm confident that this will change soon.
Extracurriculars are a must at this school though; I was president of the school Creative Writing Club and Art Editor of the annual literary arts magazine publication. You meet so many people that you'd never meet inside classes.

Shaker Heights is known for its diversity and commitment to equal opportunities. The exposure to different racial groups was educational and invaluable. Overall, the teachers are dedicated to helping their students find good futures. The social structure is relatively harmless. The one thing I disliked about my time in Shaker was that though people were focused on racial issues, it didn't really feel inclusive to minorities other than African Americans.
I graduated last year and I can easily say that my time at Shaker Heights High School was amazing. I'm a really artistic and musical person and I found that there are so many art and music classes open to students that other schools don't provide. The diversity is also amazing for a person of color like me, and it makes for a very inclusive high school experience. Overall, the academics are also really great. They're the perfect balance of being demanding but manageable. As a current college freshman, I can definitely say that Shaker has prepared me well for the demands of higher education.
