Teachers and faculty very supportive of students. Strong performing arts department and sports program. Most students show great care in school pride and activities.
SHHS is overall a great school, but is lacking in STEM programs and opportunities. There is only two academic based club that compete, while other schools in Orange County, LA, and Bay Area have multiple clubs that compete in different subjects (Mock Trial, Model UN, Quiz Bowl, Math Competitions, ISEF, Science Olympiads, etc...). I believe this school would be better if more competitive organizations were promoted/created. Our advanced science department could be stronger, especially in chemistry.
The school does a great job of promoting academic readiness through AVID and school-sponsored college readiness events. However, I wish the school helped the students discover other pathways to college besides UC and CSUs. I feel that college application and essay review sessions for applications would have really helped.

What I liked about Shadow Hills High School is the fact the teachers and counselors are willing to help me with being prepared for college. Especially when they have amazing counselors that help you with trying to be successful in high school, and to be successful before graduation. What I would like to see change is to try to get more into school spirit again, because this year I noticed the school is not as spirited as it was in my freshmen year. And if that could happen again, it would be great so I can have some pride being in the school that I will soon graduate in.
A positive aspect of shadow Hills High is that the staff push their students to become college and career ready. The graduating class of 2019 had 70% meet the UC/CSU A-G requirements! One of the highest percentages in the area. We've won a FAFSA completion contest for about two years now, i believe.
One negative aspect is that individuality and creativeness is discouraged. For example, even after parents had spent 100's of dollars on graduation leis and such, the students were not allowed to wear them and had them confiscated before graduating. The students were also not allowed to decorate hats as other schools do. Females weren't even allowed to wear non-heeled shoes. To work countless hours, spend nights without rest, and study endlessly just to graduate, then have all the fun and personality stripped from it. It's definitely a let down. Its just one example of that specific negative aspect, though.
Other than that, i did have a good time at the school.
