As a senior at SVHS, I must say that it is one of the most underrated schools in the area. It has everything to offer for an enriching high school experience, and competitive college prep. The staff is very helpful, professional, and qualified in their respective jobs. We have all sorts of clubs, honor societies, participation opportunities, and community service programs. Student safety, wellness, and discipline is highly obliged. It is mostly a black majority school, but has a good population of Hispanic students, about 10% of white students, as well as international students. You can have a very fulfilling experience at SVHS. It also organizes interaction with highly accredited colleges such as Harvard, offers helpful ACT prep programs, Global Scholars, and what not.

Coming from homeschooling and a private school, into shades valley as a sophomore, I was frightening. Not knowing anyone and my place in the school I instantly created a shell before school started. Once that day came to attend shades valley for the first time, my whole view changed. The faculty welcomed me with open arms and student were optimistic about having me as a new classmate. This changed my whole view on high school and I knew that this change was for me. As a senior lookin back on high school, I’ve learned that change will produce growth. This change has allowed me to become an ambassador, to share with others my experience and welcome others who were just like me.
Shades Valley High School is a great place to be because of the exceptional opportunities, qualified and cooperative teachers, and diversity. The school provides a variety of academic, and technical courses that cover the interest of every type of student. In addition, it is a place where everyone is welcomed and is provided with equal opportunity and fair treatment. Shades Valley High School's motto is to maximize its students' potential and help them make college and career ready. There are a lot of clubs and organizations in which students can get involved. Moreover, there is a variety of sports such as football, baseball, basketball, soccer and many more available. The IB and AP courses, and the Dual Enrollment Opportunity available at Shades Valley are some of the wonderful things that help make it's students college ready. All in all, my experience at Shades Valley as a new comer from Pakistan has been so wonderful and I highly recommend this school to other people.
