SCES doesn't have tons of clubs, it's not a divide and conquer school. However, the clubs it has are incredible, like the poetry club. My son LOVED it! There are tons of great field trips, community activities after school, during the summer and on the weekend. Shades Cahaba is a school the entire community embraces.

Bullying is the only thing that needs to be addressed, and a serious game plan put in place. It is such a great school and community that the long time staff just does not want to believe how much bullying goes on. However, it is wide-spread and viscous, especially with the boys. My son, a massive and vigorous boy, had to start defending himself against 5th graders in kindergarten. He was able to do it, but the bullying is relentless, especially in the after-school program. No-one wants to admit it. It is the only negative with this wonderful school.
The school is superb in every way, from the principal being in carpool line mornings and afternoons to having a carpool line that makes sense. The lunches being good, healthy, kid friendly and tasty. Also, unlike the school my poor child suffered the 5th grade in, the teachers are respectful professionals and adults, not on the same level as the children they attempt to teach.
