Why Severn School? Most independent schools in our area have robust academic, athletic and extracurricular programs, small class sizes and impressive facilities — just like we do. But what sets us apart is something less tangible. It’s a feeling of being known and valued, of being part of our community from the first moment you walk in the door. Our admissions team is here to show you the best of what we have to offer. But more importantly, we’ll help you reflect on how to best meet the needs of your family. Our priority is you.

This is our 3rd year at Severn School. We looked into every private school within 50 miles of our home, we toured Severn's Lower School and knew that Severn was a perfect fit for our son. Severn prides itself on developing a well-rounded individual that is confident, respectful, intelligent, ambitious - they are helping create successful contributors to society. The attention that each student receives is unparalleled. Language arts to social studies to math to science to Spanish and art and music to technology; each student is provided differentiated education so they can thrive and be challenged. Aside from the academic programs, they have "character building" classes guiding students on how to be a good human being teaching empathy, understanding, compassion- important things often overlooked in the education system. Severn School has checked all of our boxes for our son's education, and without question our daughter will follow in his footsteps and be a Severn Admiral!

We are in our 5th year at Severn, and going strong! The school community is very welcoming and supportive, and the staff is amazingly thoughtful about their approach to curriculum, technology, arts, and character-building. The teachers have ongoing professional development opportunities, and usually coach a sport or run a club in addition to teaching. This makes for role models that kids can connect with and respect on many levels. The school also emphasizes age-appropriate public speaking and self-advocacy, to prepare students to be self-confident and ask for what they need in life. Five stars to all the thoughtful ways Severn is raising the next generation of leaders!
I have nothing but great things to say about Severn. The Severn experience, from PS-12 is simply exceptional. I have had 2 kids graduate from Severn and they were both completely prepared for college. While there is no such thing as a perfect school environment, Severn sets itself apart by being completely mission driven. The mission - where each student is "known and valued" - is visible every day at Severn. There are many, many opportunities for all students to be involved in this robust academic environment including arts, athletics, leadership, community service, clubs/activities, etc... The community of teachers, administrators, parents, and alumni is welcoming and inclusive. Severn is by far the best independent school in this area - and in the state of Maryland for sure. Do yourself and your entire family a favor and visit Severn - you won't regret it!
