Sequoyah is a true, progressive-philosophy school. Because of Sequoyah, my kids are creative, independent thinkers and engaged learners who love the outdoors, respect the environment, and have empathy and respect for everyone around the world.

Yes, it is a very liberal community. Yes, it is diverse. Yes, it is crunchy. Yes, the kids run around freely, barefoot with twigs in their hair. If you love that kind of thing, then you will love this school.

Note: Sequoyah School regularly matriculates students to well-respected, high-ranking private high schools in the Pasadena area, like Flintridge Prep, Polytechnic, and Westridge. The teachers at my daughter's high school (one of the top 20 in the country on Niche's 2019 list) tell her they especially love Sequoyah students because they think independently and are not creatively stifled.

Hope that's helpful!

Sequoyah school has many fantastic teachers including but not limited to, Kim Diaz, Chad Robertson, Elaine Chiu, Renee Brody, and Lee Micheal. Sequoyah has a greatly flawed administration and lacks greatly in the Spanish department 🤭. I think that Sequoyah is good school with massive potential if they hired more of the right staff members and got rid of some dead wait that infects our learning program and yes that dead wait includes all school meeting I know some students, teachers, and parents enjoy all school meeting but most of us see them for their true nature and pathetic attempt to unite students and teachers it really is a silly time wasting thing. It would be great if the administration put more thought into the sports program instead of ridiculous meditations, and maybe spend more money on jerseys for the athletic teams instead of fake healing crystals, kombucha, and time leeching coffee get togethers.
Sequoyah provides an amazing HS curriculum and culture of learning. The teachers, admin, parents, and kids all contribute to making the community so special. My kid can easily rattle off Sequoyah's 8 Habits of Mind because he experiences each one every day. Sequoyah's Social Innovation Program stands out because it has kids study real-world issues. Kids really delve into topics and try to figure out how to make a difference in their communities. My son learned so much and the work really demonstrated to me how Sequoyah is helping shape the kids into being active, empathetic members of any community to which they belong (school, city and beyond).
