Attending Seneca Valley High School for 4 years has been a wonderful experience. The athletics, academics, teachers, staff, and students form a strong community that I never had in my previous schools. The thing about Seneca Valley that stands out the most is the 2-year International Baccalaureate program that is offered, which is extremely challenging and will greatly help you in college. Another interesting fact is that Seneca Valley is currently in construction of a new school, which will be the biggest high school in Maryland! I am truly going to miss this school and hope future students have the same experience as I did.

My time at Seneca Valley consists of memories that I will forever cherish. We were seen as the underdogs in the county as we were one of the oldest and smallest schools. But, in sports we were constantly making it to the playoffs, championships, etc. We left many people feeling prideful of our small area. The school was very diverse, safe, and there were many clubs and activities to get involved in. I was a cheerleader all four years and ran track my first two years. I can't give many complaints about the school other than the county taking away final exams which wasn't beneficial for college readiness. Also, teachers showed favoritism between students and athletes. I remember on many occasions teachers doing things that were inappropriate (taking students to lunch during the school day) and allowing them to get away with things they shouldn't have. I hope that in the future these teachers will be addressed for their actions and final exams be implemented back into schools.
Fine Arts needs more funding. These wonderful programs manage to flourish under the conditions they're given but its a joke compared to money that goes elsewhere. Additionally there's not enough AP classes and they're pushing more an more IB. Although IB is good for international and open mindedness, there NEEDS to be more AP classes so students can have a chance of getting college credit. Students and teachers manage to push through and do the best they can but good teachers and one good administrator won't do the trick. Its a wondeful school but there needs to be improvements.
