Sebastian River High School is not at all what I imagined high school to be like. Every year the district adds new rules that have no good intentions for the sanity of its students and staff, so much so that the staff members of this school treat students however they feel such as resource officers and teachers committing hate crimes physically/verbally . Some staff are at the school for the students, others don’t like their job and our academics show for it. Everything is about money and the image of the district, my experience at this school was not a pleasant experience. High school is hard enough but the overall learning environment is toxic.
Sebastian River High school is the public high school in which I have attended my entire 4 years. My school has the international baccalaureate or the IB program. This program was provided to us by our lovely guidance counselor. Our counselor makes sure that the students are prepared when they decide to go to college. Apart from this, our teachers are also very involved in school spirit week and games. My student council supervisor, who is an alumni, said that this yeah will be a great year in regards to school spirit. Our high school band also takes a huge role in our school spirit, with the drum line playing cadence on the Friday's there are football games, to the enthusiasm they show when playing in the stands during those games.
I am an IB student and I have always found that help is only ever an email away. Teachers here are very understanding, and it is a very rare occasion when a compromise cannot be met if a student needs it. Information is also readily available on websites and announcements so students are not left wandering cluelessly through their high school career and college search journey. Student life is also quite calm in comparison to other schools and I can honestly say I have never felt that I was anything but safe on campus. There are highly diverse areas extracurriculars and clubs offered, and if students are not satisfied with the selections, they are free to create their own clubs with only a few students. The campus is clean and welcoming to new students, and maintenance staff in particular are very friendly. I can honestly say I am grateful I attended this institution, and it has greatly prepared me for college life and beyond.
