Senior: I had a great experience at Winchester Thurston. Everyone—the faculty, the students, the administrators, the custodial and kitchen staff—wanted the best for each and every one of us. It's a place that nurtures students and encourages them to pursue their passions. It's a collaborative environment where students are rarely in conflict with each other. Parent: Sewickley Academy is a warm and welcoming experience. The day begins on any day with parents and children walking, talking, smiling, riding a bike, holding hands, or driving along the lovely lanes of Sewickley to arrive at the school. You are greeted with a clean and clearly enticing atmosphere of bright red umbrellas along the lawns meant to draw you to the outside space of the school. At any time of day, you will find much of the school has flowed out onto their outdoor spaces getting fresh air, whether playing or studying. Enter any of the schools hallways and find the students working together whether laying out projects on the floor, running experiments in the labs and listening or participating intently. They move between specials and classes even in the elementary school constantly learning, behaviorally and educationally. The faculty are vested in the students well-being and demonstrate great care. Senior: I would describe my overall experience at Nazareth Prep to be difficult at times. This is not mostly on the part of the school but, more so on graduating during the peak of Covid-19. Most schools during this time weren't prepared for it, and most schools including my own spent most of our freshman year online. This made learning for me difficult due to not being as connected with my teachers, as well as decreasing my attention span. Parent: Moving to CDS was the absolute best move for my daughter and our whole family. CDS's approach to teaching the whole child, providing enriching and challenging lessons while encouraging students to flourish in a safe, kind and positive environment, has been such a wonderful experience for us! Nothing makes me happier as a mother, and an educator, as the continuous growth that I see in her - academically, socially, emotionally and mentally. From the first day, the staff was welcoming, supportive and patient. We love the transparency and communication provided by the teachers and the school as a whole. The needs of all students are met with grace, kindness and compassion. The positive school culture creates a space where students can grow and learn academically. Parent: Having a background in education, I was very dedicated to touring/researching as many schools (private & public) as I could to make sure my children were in the best academic atmosphere. Without a doubt, Alpha School offers the best balance of rigorous academic experience while maintaining a strong focus on developing moral and kind individuals. The administration is very hands-on which encourages stronger bonds between students and adults at the school. This is the only school that offered an actual stand-alone STEM curriculum, instead of tacking it on to science class. Another selling point was that it is independent of the arch dioceses, so it is not threatened by regrouping and closures. I also like that my children are exposed to other children from around the city, not just nearby neighborhoods. Families travel from Fox Chapel, Butler, and Moon to have their students attend Alpha, and after my first tour there, it’s obvious why. It’s the best kept secret in the North Hills!... Alum: As a current high school junior, I can confidently say that St. Edmund's fully prepared me for high school academics. Sophomore: I transferred from a state that was mostly racist, and my previous school had a lot of racial issues. So, transferring has been a significant relief. I've had to talk about my experiences at my old school and how scared I am as I progress through my new school. The first thing she said was, 'You are dealing with a lot of academic trauma,' and I didn't realize that until she mentioned it. Carlow has been very accepting. The professors I've met so far have been incredibly nice to me, which is a bit overwhelming. They are very proactive in ensuring you have everything you need to be academically successful.
