Senior: I joined this school 6th grade which I was from mainstream school, I was having terrible grades and quiet person before I transfer to this school. This school gave me new life and made me know who am I and I joined several sports and also I join some club, leadership organization, also they taught me well about American Sign Language. I traveled so many place for multi- reason as represent this school. It was greatest experience and challenging that I ever have. Parent: Athena truly lives its mission to help dyslexic learners recognize and lean into their strengths in order to become more confident and successful at school. Everything about Athena is designed around the way dyslexic students actually learn from the very small class sizes, to the way that teachers speak about students' strengths, to a schedule that allows students ample time to complete work, to the robust electives and makerspace that encourage creativity. We have been amazed at the transformation we've seen in our child since he began here. It makes such a difference to have teachers who teach the way he learns. And for us as parents to come to back to school night and hear teachers say "It is such a privilege to teach your children. Their minds and imaginations are amazing." Well, honestly it's so different and so much better than what we were navigating before, it's hard to even compare Athena to other schools. Parent: WINGS is a wonderful school filled with caring and talented staff. Each staff member takes the time to get to know each individual student and their unique needs. ALL staff are trained from the instructional assistant to the admin team, operations coordinator, etc. They challenge our students while also respecting their boundaries and limitations. Staff work in collaboration with families to help develop, implement, and review IEPs. They always have unique and fresh ideas to keep our students engaged and happy at school. Weekly community outings and volunteer work allow our students to work on meaningful skills that will help impact their lives and open new doors in the future. They have an amazing OT gym and the therapy and music team are top notch. They are constantly thinking "outside the box" for new and innovative ways to teach our students. Parent: My son is finishing his Junior year at Compass and he's so happy to be back in person this Spring. His teachers are fantastic and have the support of the very capable administration. The teachers take the time to learn each student's challenges and strengths. They know that fine line between challenging my son but not overwhelming him. At Compass he has learned to advocate for himself and how to use the accommodations he needs to succeed because he has dyslexia, ADHD, dysgraphia and dyscalculia. Students are respectful to one another and when there is a social misstep, the community supports each other to find a solution.
