Parent: Our experience at Friends has been incredibly good. Our son (4th grade) began attending in Kindergarten and has found the environment welcoming and supportive. Although our son is very logical and technical in his thinking, his very favorite class experience is working with Teacher Teal in the art class! He also loves receiving piano lessons, chess club, and, of course, PE. We love that our son is receiving a diverse experience and learning to embrace so many different areas of knowledge. We also love the lower school Natural Playground - a safe outdoors area with nearby woods that allow the children to explore and play. Senior: The Downingtown STEM Academy is an extremely rigorous and demanding program. Therefore, in order to be successful individuals must learn good study habits, how to advocate for themselves, good communication and collaboration skills, and how to manage time. Overall, the STEM environment gives off more of a college campus vibe, as opposed to a general high school vibe. The students have a lot of freedom in that there are no hall passes, students are permitted to work outside of the classroom, there's a lot of long-term assignments, and the teachers do not hand-hold their students. The teachers are mostly incredibly supportive, qualified, and dedicated (although as in any school there will always be a few exceptions). The teachers and staff work to provide a safe community and promote good mental health. Due to the rigorous nature of the program, most students suffer from mental health issues, which need to continually be addressed. Overall, DASD's STEM is a great school and community.... Sophomore: I love Harriton High School. Most teachers are helpful, but the classes here are rigorous. The art displayed around the school is especially lovely because it showcases the talented young artists throughout the school. The administration hears the students' recommendations, like our wellness days. The teachers here really push you to do your best, and they offer help if you do poorly. Although the school is mainly caucasian, they recognize minorities in our daily announcements. Black Student Union (BSU), Asian culture club, GSA, and other inclusive clubs are invited to speak every morning. The culture at Harriton is competitive; everyone expects each other to get A's, go to prestigious universities, captain clubs, etc. And most students end up in those universities. Senior: Central High School really challenged me academically and there were definitely times were I was struggling but there were so many resources and amazing faculty that helped me. Despite the large number of kids in my class the teachers still care and provide individual help to support me and my learning needs. The faculty here are amazing and really do care about me and my experience in high schools as there are countless fun and amazing events that allow me to destress and have fun. Parent: I was very unsure of what kindergarten to choose for my daughter because she has Autism and I wanted to make sure she got the in school services she needed. I’m so glad we decided to go with School Lane Charter. They have really helped her to excel. She started off this year really lacking confidence in her abilities, now at the end of the year she’s able to read on her own! If I could change anything I about it, it would be how early the school year begins / how late the school year ends. I’m sure some people may view that as a good quality but I personally think it’s a very long year and short summer, especially compared to most schools. Senior: Honestly in general high school is what you make it at the end of the day. But my time at Mount Pleasant has been so great because all the teachers cared about me even some of the ones I didn’t have! All because I made connections and built relationships with them, which is such an important thing in high school so when you get there don’t create a bad reputation for yourself. In terms of the programs that were offered at my school, a lot of them were really beneficial. One being the IB program, which basically helps you prepare for college but it also offers you rigorous courses so that you can expand your knowledge on certain topics. The sports were also enjoyable to watch and participate in, as I was a field hockey player and enjoyed it very much and was great to have a great team family in high school just like how I had in middle school. Junior: My experience at Bodine has been a great one so far. There are good people wherever you look. My best parts of being at Bodine is being in the classroom. The teachers make things very intriguing. I like how they incorporate things that can resonate with the students, so it isn’t like we’re learning out of a textbook. The teachers and students are great. Clubs, sports, and traditions really make the school become alive. It brings everyone together from the normal, everyday duties. My only issues with Bodine in the 3 years of being there were certain behavioral issues with students but there were few instances. Senior: Northeast High School has an outstanding demonstration of warmth and diversity. My time at this school has been welcoming, from its selection of more than 50 diverse clubs to the enthusiastic teachers. By participating in after-school activities such as Robotics Club, Indopak, and Muslim Student Association, I was able to develop relationships within the school in addition to exploring my interests. As the sole brown girl in my previous middle school, the vibrant mix of individuals from various nations has been a refreshing change and sets the school apart. Northeast High School offers rigorous programs including the AP and IB courses. As someone who relishes pushing my own boundaries, these courses have provided me an opportunity to thrive. Although Northeast is great in many areas, there is room for improvement, most notably the age of the school building. Senior: The best parts of my experience at Girls High are the people and traditions. Girls High traditions are unique and range from the Pop-up Shops to Contest. Letting my creativity and school spirit soar with our shop stands, flags, grade colors, and friendly peer competition is an experience I will not forget! While the surrounding area isn't the safest, there weren't many negative aspects influenced by the school management that were significant enough to affect my experience. Junior: Hello, I’m currently a junior at Hill-Freedman World Academy and overall it is a good school for those who are focused mostly on academics. If you are looking to do sports or clubs this is not the school for you . Although they do have sports and and clubs there is not a huge variety to choose from. Also they have an IB program which can help you if you are planning to attend college. The program prepares to how to connect with others around the world who are studying similar things as you are.
