Senior: Sacred Heart is a unique school, with incredible facilities. It helps girls find their voice and encourages us to explore different paths to problem solving. Even though we are in a competitive environment, we are always supportive of each other and encourage each other to do our best. Whether it was in class or during sports, we had fun and enjoyed our time together. I’ve made a great group of diverse friends I know I will keep forever. I also feel very prepared for college. Parent: We joined UNIS for 6th grade right in the middle of the pandemic. Our daughter was excited about it but her experience has exceeded her expectations and for us, as parents, it's been a seamless, joyful journey. Students come from very diverse backgrounds with the same academic ambition which creates a nice blend of personalities, skills and talents. Teachers are dedicated to the success of the students, offering 1:1 when needed, taking a very individualized approach so everybody feels included and listened to. While the virtual set up might have been a challenge, the level of professionalism and consistency over the months has helped tremendously. Senior: My experience at Brooklyn Friends School has lasted from my first days stepping into 375 Pearl Street as a little 9-year-old to attending classes at Lawrence to my graduation. I obviously have a connection to the school as I have been here for 8 years. However, there have been ups and downs. The teachers all show great commitment to the community and the preservation and ubiquity of knowledge. They allow students to feel safe and heard. However, if you are planning on taking the IB Program, it is important to note that certain aspects of the program, you are not fully prepared for. I'd say this is fairly common in the STEM departments of the High School. I still have built amazing friendships and learned boundless information and gained a sense of self throughout my time here. The Quaker Values, although implemented in the learning and norms, are not overwhelming or all-consuming. Parent: When we were looking for a bilingual school for our son, Lyceum Kennedy was not in our radar at first. Today, my wife and I are so happy . Lyceum is an amazing school for several reasons. First, we believe that the size of the school is perfect: everyone knows everyone . Secondly, the school has always been diverse and we love that about it. Other private schools now have DEI to push diversity since George Floyd but Lyceum had always been diverse at its core which is a true statement to its value. Lastly, we love the staff and the education team. Their dedication and professionalism are unmatched. Our son is thriving thanks to them: he loves going to school, the number of subjects/activities they covered in class is outstanding. Lyceum Kennedy is the school that offers the highest education compare to other French/English bilingual schools in the northeast. Senior: Center for Global Studies is the very definition of a school that has a family-like community. Everyone has the chance to be involved in everything, and the air in the halls is always positive. Everyone I've met is and from day 1, always was, kind as welcoming--both faculty and students. Finally, the emphasis on learning in a school that puts a global spin on everything, with the reminders everywhere you go and in everything do that you are not the center of the world but instead a member of the human race who should work to understand and celebrate both others and yourself....is very meaningful. Sophomore: Almost all of the teachers I've encountered at Baccalaureate are exceptional and know what they're doing. Because of the small community and class sizes at Baccalaureate, I had opportunities to reach out to teachers and formed a few close connections out of choice, but I knew I had the chance to be even more proactive if I'd chosen to be. Throughout your time at Baccalaureate, you really do come to know everyone, at the very least all of your grademates, considering how my specific grade had just over 90 people. I can't speak much on the IB curriculum as I never had the chance to take it, but they're essentially another form of college-level work like the AP. Senior: My experience at Clarkstown south may have been limited, yet I can confidently say it was a good one. At South, inclusion and respect was preached on a daily basis. The wonderful staff kept close eyes out for negativity, and were quick to act out when spotted. Nothing is perfect in life as there are some poor aspects of this school. The implication of certain rules frequently rubbed me the wrong way. A dress code was introduced that blatantly targeted the female student body, cutting what they were allowed to wear on school property in half. My teachers, especially my HL Chemistry teacher, genuinely cared about our future and gave numerous words of wisdom. Speaking of advices, my College Calculus teacher comes off the top of my head. Senior: My experience at Red Bank Regional was decent. Most of the students, staff, and coaches were extremely nice and welcoming to the school. A few notable times Red Bank Regional went above and beyond were things like football games, battle of the classes, and spirit days. The school did a great job making everyone feel like they belonged in the community. On the other hand, RBR did struggle with class scheduling conflicts, class funding, and our specific major classes. RBR often advertised classes as highly competitive learning tracks that turned out to be the opposite. Other problems included a lack of privacy in bathrooms, frequent auto accidents in parking lots due to congestion, and recurring acts of violence such as fights.
