Orono High School
12 Best Public High Schools in Maine
- Regional School Unit No. 26 (MSAD 26), ME
Senior: With around 400 students at Orono High School, just about everyone knows each other. Just by walking the halls you can feel the driven attitudes of the students around you, always pushing one another to achieve the highest they can. Many AP and honors courses are offered at Orono, making the academic structure very variable to how you apply yourself. The teachers and faculty at Orono are hit or miss, the more experienced and older teachers are wonderful. The newer teachers are definitely still grasping the teaching process and the material they are supposed to be covering. Much of the facility at Orono High is outdated and even dangerous, a recent school board meeting estimated over 28 million dollars in repairs and updates needed.
Overall Orono High School has an involved atmosphere, supported by fellow students and faculty. Its outdated appearence does not match its interior prosperity.

- Dover Foxcroft, ME
Alum: Definitely the best school in the area for academics, resources and diversity, all of which are thanks to the boarding students. Kids from the area are blessed to able to attend a school that gets benefits from having paying students. There are many excellent teachers, but also quite a few who are inexperienced, you just have to know which teachers to shoot for. My least favorite thing was that there is annoying push for teachers to use technology whether or not it is needed. Also small town issues can be unpleasant at times, but are unavoidable.
