Indianola High School
120 Best Public High Schools in Iowa
- Indianola Community School District, IA
Senior: My experience at Indianola High School has been a pretty average experience. I spent time in Cross Country on top of marching band and my classes during the fall. During the winter season, I played in the jazz band, pep band, and concert band. Our music department is doing so well and it is growing every year that goes by. I also spent time here doing some of the harder Advanced Placement classes. Which getting into these isn't really all that hard. You just talk to your counselor and they will ask you if you feel ok taking that class. And if that class isn't for you, you can drop it and change it for another class. I also had a wonderful time in our science department and learning about the human anatomy. I thought that the teachers in that department were great at teaching us the material and helping us put together what to study. This helped to further prepare for college in my years ahead of me.

Roanoke Catholic School
- Private School
- Roanoke, VA
- PK, K-12
Senior: Roanoke Catholic is a school that teaches students belong the classroom and prepares them for either college. In the past years, 100 percent of Catholic seniors have attended college and this year the seniors have received over 2.5 million in scholarships. I started Roanoke Catholic two years ago and it was a big change coming from public school. In public schools you could slide by without doing your homework, but at Roanoke Catholic all work is required and graded as a test grade. Roanoke Catholic does not let you fall through the cracks. I also must say the food is outstanding!!
One thing I really did not like were the uniforms. In public school you basically wore what you want, but not in private school. My first year the gentlemen had to wear a shirt and tie during the winter and in the summer a polo shirt with the school’s logo and khaki pants or shorts. This year they changed the dress code to where gentlemen could wear the polo shirt and khaki pants all year around.

Interstate 35 Secondary School
- Interstate 35 Community School District, IA
Senior: Being a student at Interstate 35 my entire life, I like that we have a close community and know everyone at our high school. Unlike bigger high schools, we get the benefit of having a friendship with everyone in our high school hallways, including underclassmen. One thing that really needs upgraded is bullying awareness and the consequences. At Interstate 35, I believe that the school should have more strict rules. As of right now, the victim gets the same consequence as the bully, which is not fair of the victim unless they lead it on.

Martensdale-St. Marys Junior/Senior High School
- Martensdale-St. Mary's Community School District, IA
High School Senior: I have made some great memories at this school. If I were asked if I would want to do it all over again, I would have to say yes. The friends I have made throughout my years at this school are great. The coaches are also another positive thing at this school. My volleyball coach I had my senior year was especially great. She taught me if I'm not living up to who I want to be, then I need to push myself to be better.
