Senior: Being a student at WECHS has been a memorable and educational experience. I have gained access to material that not all high schools are able to provide, such as college-level courses and knowledge on preparing for college success. The best aspect of WECHS is being able to graduate with both a high school diploma and an Associate's degree within the four years. Attending the high school and becoming a student at Wake Technical Community College has helped me mature and learn about the college world from a young age, which I am grateful for. WECHS is an amazing high school with great educators, but the only minor change would be an improvement in the teaching methods of specific courses, such as Pre-calculus. Junior: So far, GHHS has been a really supportive environment for being such a large school. The teachers are great, the classes are fun, the students are all pretty chill, that sort of stuff. The school schedule being only 4 classes a semester is so wonderful, I cannot begin to describe how thankful I am for that, the only issue being that AP tests still only happen in the spring, so if you have one Fall semester, you’re a little bit screwed. Sophomore: I am the biggest fan of the AP and IB classes. I find that these classes are not nearly as challenging or rigorous as one may find because the teachers here are so amazing. The teachers care, are amazing role models and can be seen as a friend to come to- not just someone in charge of your education. The only complaint I would have is the issue on fights or the amount of drug users, but that doesn't directly impact me so in all I see enloe as an amazing school and I am so lucky to be attending it!... Alum: If there’s anything I could recommend middle school students who are interested in ECA, it’s go for it! I was an early graduate (4 years rather than 5) and the experience was amazing! ECA has truly allowed me to flourish under rigorous circumstances and helped me feel prepared for my college career. Senior: Chapel Hill High School is an amazing school. There are so many opportunities for people with all types of different interests. Although the school culture can be quite competitive, the dynamic prepares students for college! One of the biggest problems at Chapel Hill High School is its achievement gap. The student population is mostly made up of the white upper-middle-class and teachers and administrators alike lack the motivation and skills to support students from different backgrounds, especially minority groups of students. Amongst the competitive and challenging academics and the high expectations of staff, it is easy to be left behind at Chapel Hill. It's a great school for those who enjoy being constantly challenged and are on the college trajectory, but it is still a school that needs improvements, such as closing its achievement gap, lowering student stress levels, and making better choices about allocating its many resources.... Parent: My child is in the Single Subject Acceleration Math program. This school differs from other Wake County schools that offer this program in that all the math classes, regardless of grade, occur at the same time. That means my second grade son can skip his second grade math and go next door to attend third grade math without sacrificing a non-math class. Other Wake County schools do not make such effort to align all the math classes. For example, at our previous school, my son would have to skip language arts in order to attend the next grade level math (3rd grade), all while still stuck taking 2nd grade level math - that is, he would take both 2nd and 3rd grade level math and miss his language arts.... Junior: I have attended Granville Early College for three years now, and I couldn't ask for a better high school education. I feel extremely prepared for college, thanks to the incredible teachers, and my experiences at Vance Granville Community College. I have noticed that education and the well-being of the students at Granville Early College are the top priority, and staff make sure students are stimulated and taken care of. The only thing that I wish that the school had more of, were extracurricular activities. Not necessarily sports, but days other than the required "wellness days" where there is an activity that everyone in the school can participate in together. The athletics program is good, I played softball both junior and senior years, and the school is competitive in many interscholastic sports. Senior: My experience at Heritage High School has been quite wonderful. The communication and relationship between staff and students is exceptional. Majority of the teachers, counselors, and administrators are likely to build a strong connection with students. The employees make it their job to know your name, and help you with anything needed. The worsts parts, in terms of my experience I'd say is the racism some of the minorities face, and how it is addressed. Heritage High School is a predominately white institution located in the town of Wake Forest, North Carolina. Several incidents that stem from racism occur each semester, and not much is done to address the verbal and physical microaggressions faced. In addition to this, cultural months and festivals are not as embraced they should be. Little is done during Asian American Pacific Islander Month and nothing is done during National Arab American Heritage Month. Freshman: I went to Davis Drive Middle School all three years of middle school. There were some really nice teachers who really cared about the students. If you like joining clubs, Davis Drive is a great school because there are a variety of clubs to choose from. There were also very organized Mathcounts and Science Olympiad clubs.
