Junior: Lafayette high school hands so many options and opportunities to those who look and work hard for them!I can’t wait to finish school knowing I went to Lafayette, had such amazing teachers and friends.Having all of the experiences they offered me.They have never disrespected or disappointed me they have amazing teachers that will help you take the right steps to reach your dreams and goals. I’m on my way to graduating a year early thanks to my counselor and my hard work! For that I’m thankful. You can always work things out if you ask to, they make it incredibly easy for you to reach out and have help if needed no matter the situation.They are supportive and respect the decisions you make when it comes to school and personal reasons. Senior: Paul Laurence Dunbar High School is a welcoming and academically challenging environment. The teachers and staff work endlessly to help prepare their students for the future whether that be college, the workforce, or other. The students work to be the best and challenge themselves and each other. The school itself is a wonderful facility that has room for improvement, but is overall very nice. Students can be difficult to control, but teachers and staff do a great job of keeping the school productive and functioning. The athletics and school spirit at Dunbar is like no other. There are multiple successful teams and great support from the students and staff. The coaches are the best of the best. They push the students to be great players, but more importantly great people. The extra curricular available to students are available to all students, and there is a wide variety of clubs. The education and curriculum is rigorous and challenging. Sophomore: I love Henry Clay! I'm currently a sophomore here, and there's so much excitement every day. Every staff member in the building always makes sure you have what you need, and that you feel safe while you're in the building. There's so many clubs/ sports, surely everyone can find one that interests them. My only problem with H C is the size. WAY to crowded for the amount of kids. Everyone is in the hallway and there's no elbowroom whatsoever. AC is constantly out, and i have friends have to move to different classrooms throughout the day because their room was unusable. The funding for this school stretches and still isn't enough. There are too many kids at Henry clay; and the budget cannot accommodate. H C definitely needs upgrades. Besides the school building itself, the faculty are all so sweet, and the students are welcoming. H C is definitely the place to be if you want to learn in a lively, fun environment!... Sophomore: I really love the teachers here at West Jessamine. They try to make the best of everything possible even when things go not as planned. There is a vape problem, and I'm not sure why it isn't addressed more because as a girl, our bathrooms are cloudy and it is uncomfortable for someone that has asthma. Middle School Student: I have had a great time at West Jessamine Middle school. This school has standards that aren't impossible for students to achieve, but they are challenging. When I first came, the school didn't give off an intimidating vibe. That's good because if a school is intimidating for students then it can be stressful. The administration does an excellent job at helping students with anything. They have counselors, a family resource center, and other things as well. There isn't a whole lot of drama at this school so it's easy for students to become friends. Bullying isn't a big issue here but it is addressed every now and then so that way students know that they shouldn't bully people, and what to do if they happen to witness bullying.Some changes I would like to see is the way time is managed. For example, I would like more time to socialize with my friends because I can only ever really socialize during lunch. Not all of my classes are with my friends, so more time would be good.... Sophomore: The school is really focused on getting students involved. There’s lots of encouragement from teachers to join clubs, volunteer, and take up leadership roles. It’s also really focused on informing students about college, vocational schools, and work after high school. My only real complaint with the high school has to do with the lack of consistency in the faculty. Teachers are constantly leaving for other jobs (better ones in Lexington) or just leaving teaching altogether. While this is partially due to the student population, I think the decision to quit is added to by the nature of the school board and “higher ups”. There’s been a lot of administration faculty changes in the past few years, and it’s led to the high school feeling imbalanced and chaotic when it comes to the regulation or rules. It’s something that’s felt more than seen, but the staff tries their best to make the school feel like a safe space for its students. That’s my one complaint, but the benefits make up for it....
