Alum: West Career and Technical Academy in western Las Vegas provided an exceptional high school experience. The level of support from the staff was truly unparalleled, creating a safe and nurturing environment. I specialized in engineering, and while there was room for improvement in terms of the technology and curriculum updates, the foundational knowledge provided was robust and informative. What stood out was the school's emphasis on the arts – teachers were fervent about encouraging students to pursue their passions and interests. I look back on my time there with fondness, and given the chance, I would return in a heartbeat. Senior: Doral Academy Red Rock has provided me with the opportunity to express my creative side, while growing academically, and excelling in the realm of sports. The tight knit community and supportive environment of my school makes me honored to get to say I will graduate from it. I recommend Doral to anyone that is granted with the opportunity to attend. Despite all of the great aspects, the pandemics effects on the school definitely impacted their progression as they are newer to the valley. Freshman: Southwest CTA is a very good magnet school with a diverse selection of programs! Often times, the teacher are great and easily approachable. The only complaint I have about it is that it has no music or sports. The administration don't think music or sports would help their image as a "professional" school. However, SWCTA also has many great clubs and organizations. For example, I am currently in HOSA and speech & debate. HOSA is well-organized and is a national organization. Junior: This school’s AMSAT program shows students what being surrounded by ambition is. The atmosphere is very competitive and almost every student is in clubs and activities, or vying to create clubs. The program is very STEM oriented. Many students are also competing in HOSA, DECA, FBLA, or competing in Science Olympiad. The AMSAT program requires juniors to take at least 2 AP sciences, an AP english literature class, and an AP us history class. A high percentage of AMSAT students are not zoned for this school and are from upper middle class families. Golf, bowling, and women’s basketball are very successful sports here. Senior: I have been attending Pinecrest Academy Cadence since it first opened in 2016 back when I was in fifth grade. Over the years I have had the chance to experience all the school has to offer, it had many different electives to choose from that include award winning performing arts, CTE courses, and many more. The class sizes are considerably small since this is a K-12 Charter school, around 200 students being the average amount in each class. The teachers and admin get to personally know each student which has been very beneficial for my peers and I because it allowed for us to be able to communicate with them whenever we need help. Alum: Hyde Park Middle School in Las Vegas, Nevada was a fantastic middle school. It set me up in life with a strong foundation in my education, as well as my work ethic. I didn't go to a strong elementary school, and my high school was decent; but, Hyde Park Middle School stretched me academically in ways that I hated at the time. Looking back, every ounce of hatred I may have harbored has turned into pounds of joy and gratitude that I was blessed enough to be challenged. Relentlessly. Taken out of my comfort zone. Junior: Spring Valley High School has been pretty good for me so far! My teachers have been very helpful and nice, though of course, there are certainly teachers here that are not good to say the least. But, overall, I'd say it is a really good school. We have plenty of APs and we have an IB program. We have a large variety of electives that are pretty good. I can definitely vouch for the art classes we have here, though other electives vary on how well they are. It also does not seem to have a harsh competitive environment, but students all over are definitely motivated to do well. Teachers care a lot and yeah. It's good here. Parent: The Academics and Activities here are excellent friendly staff and community. I would like it if every class room had a teachers aid i helping when i could as do other parents but we can't always be there. I think it would help tremendously both for the teachers and students. Works Here: I am a teacher here since they opened in 2017. This is an amazing school with an amazing curriculum! We really try to raise the bar for students who come to us. It can be tough, but at least they have a solid curriculum that builds with them as they grow. What they learn in the current year is continued on the next. I taught for CCSD for 10 years before coming here. Many schools do not have a curriculum. Either they teach from pieces of outdated material or teachers find lessons off the internet. It's not the teachers fault. They teach with what they're given. At FCA, we teach with fidelity and unity across the grade level. Many kids that come to us in later years (vs kindergarten) often struggle but eventually they thrive! Don't let CCSD class sizes on here do you. They advantage 40+ students per classroom.
