Senior: Going to college academy is truly one of the best things I could have done for my high school career. I genuinely feel that I've been taught and encouraged by my teachers. The teachers all have been amazing and some more so by talking with the students in an informal manner, meaning they talk about things other than school. It truly makes the student feel welcomed and happy, and there are a few teachers who have made my days ten times better just because they had a smile on their face or made silly jokes during class. The only bad part is that I wish the administration would speak more to us and not give us last minute updates, although I do know things happen, but it is a constant thing that happens. Overall, Collegiate Academy may not be the same school as it was years ago, but it still is better than the other public school in Erie, in my opinion at least. Middle School Student: The faculty is amazing. Everyone hired is very supportive. The academics are wonderful, especially for the honors classes. A lot of clubs, and sports are huge here. Everyone goes to football games even though our team sucks. I play tennis. We have a district officer, bullet proof glass, visitor tags, monthly safety drills, etc. Diversity sucks. Most kids are white. A lot of kids vape, but you can find good people if you look. The guidance counselor is super nice but counseling gets better at the high school. Food is good, and many options. I’m vegetarian so that was good. The janitors are always smiling. The nurse can be helpful sometimes. Just stay away from the stupid parties, stick with the out-crowd, take honors classes, and you will be absolutely fine. Freshman: Fairview is a great place! The only thing that is mediocre is funding for activities. The football team has an almost unlimited budget. They never do any fundraisers or anything. I am on the tennis team. We get a small budget and have to fundraise for most things. The football team has a severe losing streak, and other sports are very accomplished, but they seem to get all the money. Funny how that works? The arts, music, and theatre are even worse. Alum: My personal experience with JS Wilson was mostly enjoyable. I had an excellent education. My only negative would be that some of my teachers seemed to care more about some students than others but I persevered and made it through despite all the challenges a middle schooler can face. JS was the first school I attended in Erie Pa after moving from Morgantown WV. I had a hard time adjusting but the atmosphere made me feel better about having to make new friends and I felt more included. Some teachers I had were the best to this very day. I had an english teacher that taught me valuable information that I kept through out my middle and high school careers. Alum: Being on the autism spectrum, I had so much support from teachers, my football coaches and my peers. They all really helped me to excel in my High School career and socially, as well. I had a great High School experience after moving her during my freshman year. After a rocky start i found my place with the help of the staff and surpassed even my own expectations. My football coach was such an inspiration to me and because of him i am leaning toward a career as a teacher. I want to be to someone else, what he was to me. He did so much more than coach me at football. He took the time to know me and boosted my self confidence more times than i can count. Others, like my sped teacher and my English 10 teacher really helped me get it together so i could give 100%, at least most of the time. I also struggled with anxiety, so that effected my school performance at times.
