Senior: I loved my four years at La Cueva because the school spirit and community was amazing. They take a lot of pride in their academic and athletic accomplishments. They have great dances, pep rally's, band performances, clubs, teachers, and students. The security guards are super sweet and always make sure students are having a great day.La Cueva also has a great tutoring program for students that need help with subjects they are struggling with.The janitors do a terrific job keeping our school clean and beautiful. Senior: East Mountain High School is a preparatory school that intends to get its students ready for college classes. I love how small my school is and the teacher-to-student ratio. This has helped me get the extra tutoring and grow strong relationships with teachers. Since my school is located in the Sandia Mountains, I feel very safe and happy to be out in nature. I do wish that our school did have a cafeteria, which would increase social interactions and keep from us sitting on the ground. I also wish that we had more diversity in our student ethnicity. Most of our school is White. I also feel like our campus could use a little renovation since we are in big trailers for school. Parent: I think that MLK has been a fabulous school for our three kids. We feel very lucky with the teachers they've had. The enrollment has dropped quite a bit I noticed because of the new school opening up and a lot of kids moving to Maggie. It's now around 680. Although the PAWS (after school activities program) hasn't started back up this fall due to the pandemic, it's such a wonderful asset to the school and really well run. The parents and administration have worked hard to make sure that this school has great extracurricular offerings. They also have a STEM lab. Senior: Cottonwood is an amazing school! Every teacher is dedicated to making each student feel at home. Although the workload can be a lot at times, it really has prepared me to know what college is like. It gives students a very good work ethic, and after being at this school for five years, I have learned so many things that have helped me in the real world. I love that this school offers so many different electives to help students get their creative juices flowing. As a senior this year, the IB Program has trained me to think like a college student. I will be very prepared when I graduate and will understand how lessons will be taught in college. I am very pleased with how this school runs and addresses important issues. This school is my home and is a safe place I can turn to. I have created so many friendships with kids in my classes as well as my teachers. Alum: St. Pius X prepared me well, not only for a Ivy League degree, but for life. On top of the academic preparation, a wide breadth of cocurricular classes allowed for exploration into different passions- some of which I still hold, such as film photography and weight lifting. Athletically, the coaches and teammates I was blessed to compete with all touched my heart, many of whom I still keep in touch with. Aside from the great teachers, courses offered, and stellar athletic teams, the diversity of the students and emphasis on living out the Catholic faith taught me to always love your neighbor. I would argue that this aspect is what makes St. Pius X so special. I would always recommend St. Pius for students and parents looking to have a well rounded, wholistic high school experience. Junior: This school is so amazing! Yes it's smaller that the bigger high schools in the city, but the classes, teachers, admin, and staff are so much better! There are only about 50 students per grade which allows for smaller classes. These small classes grant the ability to have more one on one time with teachers and staff. All the teachers are specially picked and have excellent training. Also because our school is small, you never get lost. We are also combined with Career Enrichment Center (CEC), which provides us with incredible career classes like World Languages, EMT, Nursing Program, Forensic Science, Vet Med, and so much more!... Alum: My experience at Eldorado was actually decent. The teachers care about helping you take in information easy. The school truly prioritizes mental health and inclusivity. There are many electives and clubs to get involved in. The school sprit is spectacular, especially during school assemblies. The campus is kind of outdated, but is slowly being renovated. Senior: I would say it is a great high school to go to, as it is highly academically inclined and is able to teach many different people many different things. It has a really big campus, with several different buildings, some new and some old. A large library and gym, a new baseball field, and a softball field. A football field and a large gravel pit that's extremely fun to run in. There are no real problems, other than the people ditching class all the time. Security is pretty lax and you can literally leave class with no problem. That's the only real problem with this school, but overall, it's a really good school to go to, and I would love to send my children there as well, as my mom went here and I went here. Parent: I have 3 children who have attend Sandia Vista. My oldest is now in Middle School and if it wasn’t for the amazing teachers she would really dislike school. She struggled with ADD and at no time did they ever treat her bad but they engaged and encouraged her more and helped her to find ways to stay on track without ever suggesting she should take medication. My other 2 kids have been apart of the Amazing Montessori program at the school. We were so lucky to have the option of both tracks at one school.
