Niche User: Veazie Community School's motto, "Small School, BIG Heart!" says it all! From their FLEX Friday program where kids get to pick from a wide range of classes ranging from Karate to Origami, all the way to its core instructional programming such as accelerated math, STEM and gardening.....it is hard to find a better place for kids to grow and learn. Senior: Throughout my time at OHS I have been presented with many opportunities that other high schools in our area don't offer. There is a large selection of classes and counselors can expand class options with early college courses as well. It is a welcoming environment for new and existing students which is less common in high schools in our area. Teachers at OHS have a passion for their work and spread their joy in the classroom every day. Aside from academics, OHS offers sports and clubs to fit the interests of everyone. I am an athlete who participates in sports year round. The coaching staff at OHS is carefully selected and it is very uncommon to have a bad impression of a coach. I came from a small town so the adjustment was smooth which I am very appreciative of. I have no bad reviews to give about OHS, it is the ideal high school to attend and prepare for the future.... Middle School Student: Great school, great academics, great teachers that are very supportive. The diversity is absolutely great college readiness is above average. Junior: There are so many passionate, engaged teachers at this school. I have consistently had my asks for help met with enthusiasm and genuine effort, and most are often available after school. The classes are very good, and the selection is incredible considering it's Bangor Maine. The school offers ample opportunities to its students and I feel satisfied with its academic curriculum. I'm keeping it at four stars because the infrastructure is incredibly problematic. We've had construction for approaching three years now. There was a waterfall-like flood down a stairwell in the past month that flooded one of the B-lobbies. the bathrooms are unofficially off-limits to all but the bravest of bladders due to a prevalence of kids hanging out in there to "talk" with the strong smell of cotton candy on more than one occasion. The percentage of the school population who tend to lurk in the bathrooms is small but steadfast and unrelenting. Ending on a positive note: the academics rule!... Read 215 reviews

Parent: My siblings went to Holbrook many years ago and had wonderful experiences. Now my eldest has gone through and my daughter has just begun. The teachers know the kids by sight and name. The principal does as well and participates in many activities. It is a small school in central Maine where there is not a lot of diversity and the athletic fields need a lot of fixing up. Senior: Hampden Academy is welcoming to all. Everyone is helpful when needed. It’s been a great experience for the 4 years I’ve been attending. There is a wide variety of classes for people planning to major in different subjects after high school. There are many clubs and activities that most teachers run. Sports are also very popular at Hampden Academy. We have Great student sections. Although there are some teachers that are harder to work with than others, most teachers are understanding with getting assignments done on top of work, sports, and other responsibilities. Teachers also offer help time before and after school which is very helpful in certain classes someone might struggle with. Teachers put effort into helping us get good grades and achieve our goals. Senior: My experience at Hermon High School was fun. They encourage sports and have on site tutors open for every block during the day. The staff is very kind and the majority of teachers are there to support students. Extra curricular's and clubs are offered, student led, with an advisor, and I really enjoyed participating in a few of them. They have resources and opportunities if you talk to your guidance counselor, and mine actually helped me finalize my major and help me make decisions towards my future. Hermon High School also offers 2 spirit weeks, one for homecoming, and one during the winter. There are games and competitions on the last days, and themes for dressing up throughout the week.
