I would pay for this education again if I had to; it has been just that valuable to him! The learning environment "doesn't feel like school" (his words) because it is so engaging, interesting, and fun! The peer group is unmatched and I can tell that his graduating class will be friends for a lifetime. Parent: Our kids are students at Menaul, and they have greatly grown both personally and academically. Menaul is a unique college preparatory school with a beautiful campus and dedicated staff. Because of its boarding program there are students from over 20 countries and due to generous donations, the school offers substantial financial aid bringing in students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. Menaul's “no cut” sports program and PE classes are another big plus. It gets kids in shape and is a great way for them to build lasting friendships. Finally, their management through CoVid was superior! They were open and in person (with an online option) nearly the entire time by working hard to keep everyone safe and finding reasonable solutions to requirements such as classroom density. Senior: I loved my four years at La Cueva because the school spirit and community was amazing. They take a lot of pride in their academic and athletic accomplishments. They have great dances, pep rally's, band performances, clubs, teachers, and students. The security guards are super sweet and always make sure students are having a great day.La Cueva also has a great tutoring program for students that need help with subjects they are struggling with.The janitors do a terrific job keeping our school clean and beautiful. Senior: In my experience attending Los Alamos High school, I have come across all types of experiences, ranging from really positive to really negative. Some of my most fond memories from the school still come to my mind every day, whilst some are memories I'd rather forget all together. I can attribute my best experiences to the teachers, students, and staff. This high school has been a very substantial part of my education. The academic side of the high school is through the roof. Junior: AIMS is an interesting school is the easiest way to put it. The school itself is middle school and high school, yet holds about 600-800ish students. The faculty are close-knit, since it is so tiny, and the students practically stick with the same classmates they met in 6th grade. The academic course is excellent for those who wish to attend UNM afterward since the school is chartered by UNM, as you are required to take 30 college credit hours on top of your high school learning. The course load is best put manageable and is best for those who hold their academics higher than their extra-curricular activities. As it is free and requires you to help out with community service per semester, rigorous science fair and Rube Goldberg competitions, and college classes during high school, it is a niche for students who are willing to go through it, and also comply with dress code.... Senior: The Academy for Technology and the Classics is an incredible school. It is fairly demanding in terms of homework as most high schoolers are highly recommended to take around 7 AP classes throughout their high school years. ATC unfortunately does not offer many sports (only cross country, track, basketball, soccer, and esports), electives, or extra-curriculars, but makes up for it with a great environment. It has a very unique campus as most hallways are outdoors. The smaller class sizes make it much easier to have more connections and grow closer with the whole class. Alum: St. Pius X prepared me well, not only for a Ivy League degree, but for life. On top of the academic preparation, a wide breadth of cocurricular classes allowed for exploration into different passions- some of which I still hold, such as film photography and weight lifting. Athletically, the coaches and teammates I was blessed to compete with all touched my heart, many of whom I still keep in touch with. Aside from the great teachers, courses offered, and stellar athletic teams, the diversity of the students and emphasis on living out the Catholic faith taught me to always love your neighbor. I would argue that this aspect is what makes St. Pius X so special. I would always recommend St. Pius for students and parents looking to have a well rounded, wholistic high school experience. Senior: I like how inclusive St. Michael's is. Everyone knows everyone, and everybody is polite. The school offers many different opportunities for several interests. The faculty and staff want each student to succeed. I'll never forget my first year here. All the staff and all of my classmates were so friendly. They made sure I was comfortable with my classes and they taught me the ways of St. Michael's. It is not a regular high school. We go on retreats, we open our hearts to each other, and we profess our faith. St. Michael's instills in each student a set of five core values that we use not only in our academics, but in our daily life. St. Mikes is different and it's perfect that way. Junior: This school is so amazing! Yes it's smaller that the bigger high schools in the city, but the classes, teachers, admin, and staff are so much better! There are only about 50 students per grade which allows for smaller classes. These small classes grant the ability to have more one on one time with teachers and staff. Senior: As a student that has attended The ASK Academy since the eighth grade, I can see that we have come a long way since my first day. We have Switched from a small two-story building with practically no commons (our auditorium and lunchroom) and teachers constantly having to share rooms, despite not having anywhere near the same subjects to now having a commons that is big enough for all the scholars, both middle and high school, and only five teachers sharing rooms. In terms of academics, we have only limed options for electives, those being biomedical or engineering. We have no fine arts classes, nor cooking, drama, or other subjects offered to us. We do, however, have a publishing class that handles the yearbook committee and school newspaper, we also have other common clubs, like the dance committee, National Honors Society, and scholar government.... Senior: I would say it is a great high school to go to, as it is highly academically inclined and is able to teach many different people many different things. It has a really big campus, with several different buildings, some new and some old. A large library and gym, a new baseball field, and a softball field. A football field and a large gravel pit that's extremely fun to run in. There are no real problems, other than the people ditching class all the time. Security is pretty lax and you can literally leave class with no problem. That's the only real problem with this school, but overall, it's a really good school to go to, and I would love to send my children there as well, as my mom went here and I went here. Senior: Estancia Valley Classical Academy has been a wonderful school to attend. Policies are consistent and easy to understand, teachers are exceptional and the school culture is professional and pleasant. I would love to see a wider variety of classes, especially foreign languages! I’d also be interested in more practical classes like home economics. I appreciate that one math and one science credit are open and allow students to start exploring specialized interests while still in high school. Scheduling and transferring can be an arduous process but has greatly improved over the past few years as far as I can tell. Senior: This school is overall okay. The best part about Volcano is the teachers. They're a lot of fun, make my day, and, especially the ap teachers, will try their best to prepare you for upcoming tests. When you get into classes that are unique and don't have a lot of students, it's a lot of fun and the teachers really give it their all. However, the worst part about Volcano is easily the amount of students. Our school is overcrowded with over 2,500 students and the halls are ALWAYS cramped. I often take the back stairwells to avoid the crowds and to get to class on time. This year, we had so many students, that I could only add/drop classes and I was unable to re-take a class I needed for college (I took it at CNM instead). The highs outshine the lows but the lows include almost daily school fights at the beginning of the year (from freshman mostly) and lots of security at games. Senior: I love Arrowhead Park Medical Academy since I have got to experience a lot of amazing thing. First, we don't have to pay for our associate degree. Second, our teacher will stay to night for you to understand their subject! Third, there is medical classes that are fantastic such as EKG, CNA and we you complete the class you could get nationally certified. Fourth, we have a lot of diversity and there is people from all around the world coming to Arrowhead and I am one of those students since I am Middle Eastern. Lastly, our staff is one of the most amazing staff ever they will help you with their admission and if you have problems and question you will come out of the office with answers and solutions. Senior: The campus is clean and there's a good student-teacher ratio. The lunches are pretty standard, but there is always fresh fruit and vegetables available during breakfast and lunch. Both breakfast and lunch, as of 2021, were also free to all students. Teachers and student council work well to provide entertaining and exciting after school activities for students. Unfortunately, however, the COVID protocols at this school are lacking. Teachers hardly ever seem to care if their students are wearing their masks and those who do can't avoid them. Improper mask-wearing isn't punished, either, despite it being a state mandate. The school also says it does regular deep cleans, but the outside and around campus is consistently grody-looking. The administration and staff have been so inspiring and supportive in my child's academic and athletic pursuits. It is a very diverse school in which kids are very accepting of one another. There is something for everyone-sports, theatre, music, bilingual classes, Senate, and much more. Many of my daughter's teachers have gone above and beyond, writing reference letters, encouraging outside endeavors to put on college applications, made extra efforts during COVID to make sure there were no mental health issues.
