Alum: It was a good change for me for high school, and I met some nice people. However, I was there during covid and absolutely hated by time there for my junior and senior years. The school has a problem with students who both feel and act overly entitled to things (due to their wealthy backgrounds), which becomes very annoying when just about every person you talk to is like that. The school is small too, so you cannot get away from them either. There is also barely any racial or class diversity. The administration does not seem to take any input apart from themselves and those who send large donations. Based on what I've heard, it is no surprise that most teachers I had have left. My teachers were wonderful, and I feel as though MPH really helped set me up for college. They also were very accommodating for my ADHD time/deadline issues, which I greatly appreciated. Parent: Christian Brothers Academy has been an exceptional choice for both of my children. The older one just finished her freshman year at college and was extremely well prepared for the rigors of college life. My son is a senior and although very different from his sister, has also had an amazing CBA experience. They came from public school and both entered in 7th grade which I highly recommend. The Jr. High team does a remarkable job of creating a sense of community and family from the start. There is a tremendous amount of school spirit and pride. My children have been involved in sports, the musical, clubs, and every social activity. While they most loved the traditions, like Founder's Day and Homecoming, it seems like there is always something fun going on and they've made great friends from all over the Syracuse area. Senior: Fayettevile-Manlius has been a great high school to attend! Academics are very rigorous with lots of AP and dual enrollment classes and provide a good foundation for college. The teachers are generally helpful and want you to succeed. There are an abundance of clubs and activities, you will find something that you’re passionate about. It is also a good school for athletes as we have several nationally-ranked athletic programs. The school does have problems with culture and diversity which can damper the experience for some people. Senior: Jamesville-Dewitt High School is an excellent institution in Syracuse. Every teacher is dedicated to their subjects and do whatever they can to help their students excel. JDHS has not only amazing athletic programs, but also fantastic arts and music programs. There is also an abundance of clubs one can get involved in depending on their interests. School spirit is well and alive in the high school and our sports teams are always celebrated. Senior: Overall, the teachers at West Genesee High School are supportive and kind to their students. They work to make lessons engaging and prepare students for tests. On the other hand, the building itself is “boring”; the walls are plain and doesn’t make the school look inviting. It would be nice if the school was filled with more posters and color. Junior: Bishop Ludden is a great school. Since it is a small school it is amazing for making many friends. There is a good balance because older kids can be friends with younger kids and they can learn from each other. Bishop Ludden is one of the few schools that offer the IB program. I feel these classes are essential for preparing me for college. Senior: I love this school. Although it has its quirks, and the grey repainting of the walls sort of makes the interior feel lifeless, the community of this school saves it for me. I'm a senior, and my entire class combined with the class below us is super tight knit. Everybody is close with each other, we all feed off each other's emotions, and it's not a surprising thing in my class for people to ask each other if they are okay. Even if people don't know how to help, they still try their best, such as one of my friends who was just cracking jokes to cheer me up. Senior: From my time at East Syracuse Minoa HS, it overall was a nice experience. I didn't get the full experience due to COVID, missing out on half my freshman year and having a psuedo-normal sophomore year, however. There was a large emphasis on school spirit, student involvement, and a no student left behind sort of deal, ensuring that students felt included and heard. Things though fell short when it came to the problems present in the school. With issues such as fighting, bathroom vandalism, and bathroom hooligany among other things, I feel that the students were disregarded and more effort was put into protecting the school's image. While I understand that publicity plays a big role into things such as funding and school enrollment, I feel that more effort should've been put into understanding and responding to the student perspective, rather than the media's.... There are so many opportunities for students to take a course related to their carrier. CNS is also very LGBTQ inclusive and prioritizies the awareness of mental health. There are many resources throughout the school with the best counselors to provide assistance for students with anything from mental health to career paths. We also have an amazing opportunity for athletes with a updated stadium and high quality turf. The only change that needs to be made is the school food. Alum: Chittenango high school is a perfect size school, not to big or to small. I transferred from a larger school which I was just a number. Students and staff know each other, and work well with each other at Chittenango. Students can be involved in both sports, clubs and music activities because the staff try to work with each other to prevent as many conflicts as possible. Teachers really care about their students not just academically but also their well being. Teachers show up at sporting events, musical performances and community activities. Senior: The school is ever-changing and great in my opinion. Many other students would not agree, but they aren’t the brightest. However, I must admit that everyone, including me, complains about at least something wrong. The school board make unpleasant choices, but I really love the community and the people or staffs in the school. Lunch can be a wide spectrum of decent to amazing. We get served chicken at least once a week, and it go up to Philly cheesesteaks and Asian cuisines. The atmosphere does not feel gloomy and sad like how I would imagine at some other schools.
