You can sense the warmth between the members of the community that are diverse religiously, economically and ethnically. I can't think of another place in San Antonio that is so rich in its cultural diversity.  Teachers and admin are an absolute dream. I leave my child here each day feeling so great she is in their care. The school makes learning so fun that the kids don't even know they are acquiring so much knowledge. Furthermore, the school also takes the time to work on the character of global citizenship. I hear the kids being polite, taking turns, cleaning up after themselves and playing fairly. Finally, as a working mom, I really appreciate the high-quality after-care they provide. Senior: The most beautiful part about Saint Mary's Hall is its community. I initially thought that it would be too tight knit because it is a smaller private school but as time passed I realized the benefits of the smaller Baron community. Everyone knows everyone. If you need help with something, all teachers, all students, all administration are willing and excited to help you! I absolutely love this place and it has certainly shaped me and made me into a better human. The emphasis on STEM subjects genuinely helps students to prepare for their futures, and with the help of the college counselors, their higher education. In addition, BASIS provides some degree of flexibility in scheduling, allowing each student to customize their own path and achieve their own greatness. However, no school is perfect, and aide from the expected antipathy of the students towards the immense workload, BASIS sports are less than ideal, even in the scope of the Charter League, and so are the arts, moreso fine than liberal. Senior: Keeping it 100 I thought this school was gonna be full of nerds but I met some of the realest people here. Although we may not have many sports we make up for it with our academics, clubs, and school traditions. Compared to conventional high schools we are pretty small but that's why you can meet everyone in your grade at least sometime throughout the 4 years. Our school is so safe your belongings never get stolen. The only thing that needs to change is the culture the underclassmen are brought up in, we should have stricter application requirements to keep our school among Texas' elite. Junior: Since I was attending Tejeda Middle School beforehand, Johnson was the next step for my education journey and one I don’t regret being a part of. Not only have I deepened my friendships and made new ones, I’ve also discovered what I truly wanted to do at the school. Johnson’s excellent healthcare diagnostics route for classes have allowed me to understand what I want to do in the future, specialize in the healthcare industry as an optometrist or otherwise. Not only are the career classes great but also the history/social studies ones. AP Human Geography and AP World History, classes I’ve attended, have expanded my love for history; even making me read more books outside of the school! While I think that Johnson is overall a good school, there are some general issues. Parent: We are so happy that we discovered Lutheran High School for our daughter! She is genuinely happy to go to school each day. The academics are excellent. There are several Honors and AP options (History, English, Calculus I & II, Comp Science, Spanish etc) as well as dual credit engineering classes. Importantly, the students are not stressed out and miserable because the teachers and social environment are supportive and nurturing. Bullying and other toxic social issues that are prevalent at other schools are not present here. Athletics are top notch and welcoming to all abilities. Home games and even out of town games are well-attended by students, faculty and parents even if they don't have an athlete on the team. The Robotics, E-Sports, One Act Play etc provide excellent extracurricular opportunities. We moved from CA last summer and our main concern was to find a school for our sons with both high academic standards and Christian values. AA has it all. Senior: I absolutely love CHS! The student environment is so friendly and welcoming, and the overall social environment of the school is excellent. Christian is certainly not just a "sticker" on the name of the school. The people at CHS truly do live out what they believe, and the school truly does seek to create Christ-loving servant-leaders. The teachers and faculty are incredible and truly care about the students. Senior: I have been enrolled at Randolph for 5 years now, during my time there I have been able to excel in my studies and expand the once-tiny social life I had. However, some teachers can be a little rough around the edges when it comes to teaching, especially my couches for track and powerlifting. Nevertheless, through sweat and tears, I was able to complete assignments and win some competitions. This is precisely why I've enjoyed my time here at Randolph. My teachers pushed me because I didn't push myself; they saw the best in me even when I didn't see it in myself. As my senior year brings my time with Randolph to an end I think fondly of my time there. Life is full of joys and heartache but Randolph and its staff make it easier to handle the ups and downs. However, I do have a suggestion for future students. I would love to see the expansion of sports activities since the limited size doesn't allow sports such as soccer or wrestling, which I believe would bring opportunities to students.... Junior: My freshman year I really struggled with my mental health, including depression and anxiety. I was lucky to have amazing teachers and administrators who provided me with support and guidance. I had access to tutoring and extra help with homework. I was given much leeway with assignments because my teachers understood I was going through a difficult situation. I’m so grateful I had kind and understanding teachers who helped me when I really needed it. The teachers and administrators really do care for the students here at Steele. However, there are often negative interactions between students and staff. Students are often disrespectful to teachers and faculty. Fighting is sometimes a problem, but staff and the school resources officer always break it up. The environment at Steele is usually positive, despite any negativity spread by others. Senior: Judson Early College Academy is a great school for anyone who is interested in getting a preview of the college experience. From day one, everything is designed to prepare you for not only your current college endeavors but future ones as well. However, I would not recommend this school if you want to go to a large school and participate in a large variety of clubs/extracurriculars. Or if you want to explore your academic interests because there is no variety of courses available (ex. computer science, health science, debate/law). Everyone has a set course plan for all four years. Regardless, once you graduate from JECA you will receive a Highschool Diploma and an Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts!
