Senior: USN has been a great school for me! I have gone there since kindergarten and I have been able to see my growth as not only a student but as an individual as well. Once in high school, students are given more freedom, and I truly appreciate that because it prepares you more for the real world. With freedom comes accountability and knowing how to juggle different activities I am involved in. USN is an academically challenging school as that is what the school's main focus is. Senior: After being at Harpeth Hall for both middle and high school, I can confidently say that I really enjoy the small class sizes and close relationships with teachers. I never feel ignored or brushed aside in class, and teachers are almost always available if I have a question outside of class. The academics at Harpeth Hall are amazing and I am challenged every say in my classes. However, the school is not as strong socially as it is academically. It's not very diverse racially or economically, with the majority of students being white and upper/upper-middle class. Alum: Hume-Fogg is very academically focused, but there is also time for students to explore their interests and have fun. All academic classes at Hume-Fogg are honors or AP classes, but it is very manageable and enjoyable once you're used to it. For the fun aspect, there is a Titanball tournament hosted every year during school hours which students can freely attend, there are many club, during and after school, and there are many sports teams that students can join too. This is great for getting to know your classmates and forming bonds with one another. The Arts Department in Hume-Fogg is wonderful! The bands have received top marks at CPA, the chorus has received top marks in their assessments, and the Theatre Arts Department puts on wonderful plays that all the students have had the chance to enjoy. As a band student myself, I truly enjoyed my time playing an instrument and music that other's found too difficult for high schoolers. For academics, the teachers make everything rewarding.... Senior: Central Magnet school is consistently nationally ranked in the top 10 of public high schools. We are the number one school in Tennessee and our students reflect that. From being active in hundreds of local service projects, to speaking at board meetings regarding county policy on mask mandates, our students are well rounded and shown to be cream of the crop year after year. The teachers and staff trust the students immensely, whether its not having to ask to go to the bathroom (just trusting you will go and come back) or sending students on errands throughout the school. We have a club for just about any interest from: robotics, or movie circle , to our aviation club, which has a close relationship with MTSU and their flight school. Central has only honors and above classes: advanced honors, AP, and duel enrollment. With such a great education comes work; lots of work. Senior: I have gone to Ensworth since 5th grade. Being at a predominately white institution for my formative years, I felt like I was being deprived of a well-rounded school experience. That is not the case! I consider Ensworth my second home. The teachers and faculty are so caring and understanding and the plethora of opportunities I'm able to take advantage of because of my school never ceases to amaze me. It's tight knit community for sure, but people are generally welcoming and supportive. Alum: Merrol Hyde really is what you make it. Some people hate it, some people love it. I personally was very involved in the school and did multiple clubs, sports, and leadership and I LOVED my time there. The faculty is amazing and truly wants each student to do well and succeed. It definitely is a competitive environment in terms of the student body- lots of comparing/judging peers based on grades and test scores; I sometimes felt judged by my peers about my intellectual ability. As for the social environment, I personally love it but I can see where it may be hard for others to adapt or enjoy it. Everyone is very close and it is a tight knit community since it is such a small K-12 school, which is GREAT but can make it socially difficult for students arriving pretty much any time after freshman year. Alum: Great school! Enjoyed my experience at Brentwood High School because of the many choices of classes of all levels for academics. I had teachers that tried to build relationships with the students and encourage them in different pursuits in the school's community. I appreciated having different leadership opportunities through academics, clubs, and athletics that were student-centered. I felt like the school had a broad assortment of athletics so any student who wanted to participate could find a place on one of the teams. Alum: Davidson Academy was a good school. I have graduated recently and the school was definitely a great prep for college. However, in recent years things have really begun to go down the drain. Several teachers have been fired in recent years based on the personal bias from the board or administration. Speaking of administration it has changed hands multiple times just in the past 4 years. Most of the teachers at DA are great. There are many staples that really make the teaching staff. However, due to the firing of many other staples, the school has continuously hired teachers that are in no way capable. The relationships with students are beyond inappropriate and there is obvious bias, to clarify, I'm talking about the middle/high school. The elementary school is fantastic! The issues with the high school especially are too prevalent. Senior: When I started my freshman year at Father Ryan, I only knew a handful of people as I did not attend a Catholic school prior to my enrollment. I knew a couple of seniors from my dance company and had a few other acquaintances. I wasn't too worried as I am outgoing and make friends easily. Freshman year was going well and then Covid hit and everything changed. It was challenging for me going from in person learning to online. Overall, Father Ryan did a good job handling a tough situation; however, I wish that more zoom classes had been offered instead of the majority of the work being self-taught. My teachers have positively impacted my years at Father Ryan as they have put in the time and effort to make sure their students get the most out of their classes. One of the most memorable experiences at Father Ryan has been my involvement in their dance program. Senior: Patriots are the best! The enthusiastic student body is always excited and ready to learn and encouraged by the teachers and staff in activities in and out of the classroom. Students here are encouraged to push the boundaries of their knowledge and find new ways to think outside the box. The smaller class sizes give students the opportunity to ask questions and learn material at a controlled pace. In the past year our school opened up a new building packed full of classrooms suited for every subject level. The building has a great new layout and the large windows and wide hallways give students a feeling of freedom throughout the day. Alum: I would say that my years being a part of the blackman community was an amazing experience. The school really encouraged us as young, developing adults to achieve greatness. I was able to excel in being more confident with their JROTC program and set myself up as a future leader. It had the resources to talk to recruiters for our military and I ended up enlisting in the Army. The amount of achievements I earned as a student their wouldn’t be possible without the support from the faculty and staff who encouraged me to pursue my passion.
