Sophomore: The Meadows School is a prep school that really does prep you for college. They have a great sports program, incredible clubs, and theatre. We compete in international competitions and place. The learning load is rigorous, however the teachers are invested and complimentary tutoring is available if needed. Security controls who goes on the campus and does rounds to make sure we are safe, I feel very safe here. Senior: Advanced Technologies Academy is an amazing high school to attend. Advanced Technologies Academy is a very inclusive and diverse school. Attending this school for the last couple of years has truly been amazing and it all comes from the teachers and students. At ATA it feels as if the teachers do truly care about their students as they take the time to get to know their students individually and make sure they're understanding the material given in class. With the students however, with each of the four different classes being in smaller groups than a typical pubic school, it is easier to build relationships with other students attending especially those in your same grade. Parent: I am thrilled with what Adelson is doing for our kids. We have three kids there, and each of them is learning at a very comfortable pace, socializing very well, and there are many athletics opportunities. What I especially love is there is no "woke" teaching. The emphasis is on math, English, a positive outlook on American history, and related matters that are essential for a child's development and preparation for the real world. We moved from Los Angeles, where we had some degree of strange teaching/education, and that is just not present here. We don't have to worry about that. And the administrators are warm, welcoming, and very easy to talk with! Finally, the classroom sizes are smaller, and much more attention is focused on the children. We are very blessed to have found Adelson. if there's one thing I would like to see changed (only because the prompt suggests I answer that) is perhaps a better emphasis on athletics, but even that is pretty good. The level of support from the staff was truly unparalleled, creating a safe and nurturing environment. I specialized in engineering, and while there was room for improvement in terms of the technology and curriculum updates, the foundational knowledge provided was robust and informative. Junior: I have been attending Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas for almost nine years. My favorite part about Coral Academy used to be how understanding the staff were, the small classroom sizes, and the diversity that we would see reflected throughout the student population as well as the administration. However, due to the drastic teacher/staff shortage as well as the lack of school funding, these aspects have been gradually dissipating. However, I continued to attend this school because I appreciate the vast amount of AP STEM courses they offer and the sizable amount of driven students that I can relate to. Sophomore: Las Vegas Academy is an excellent school where you can really learn how to fly. I am a theatre major and I have learned so much about acting in its many forms since coming here. I had no self-esteem at the beginning of my freshman year, but the support of some amazing classmates and teachers helped me realize that my perspective on the world is needed. The only big problem that I have with this school is favoritism. You will know if a teacher favors you or not, and it is hard to get our there and really get respect. I am also not bullied at this school (finally!) but I've definitely gotten the reputation as a weird person, and, while some people are amazingly friendly and unique, I sometimes feel very lonely and isolated from my classmates. But, if you're someone who loves to be busy, this is the school for you! I'm currently in three Shakespeare shows, I write my own plays, and I'm preparing for final exams. Senior: I love this school! They have an unbelievable amount of opportunities, and activities available to the student body which range from an amazing Orchestra to an Award-Winning Mock Trial Team. In addition, they are constantly expanding their faculty, and academic resources available to students, most notably through their expansive library, distinguished flight academy and on-campus greenhouse. I enjoyed these activities, and although it was difficult, and most burdensome to initially adjust to the large amount of faculty, and close student body, the aforementioned efforts made by the school facilitated this process. Senior: One of my favourite things about Coronado High was all the different classes I could take. There was something for everyone – from honours and advanced placement courses to vocational classes, and electives like photography, journalism and music production. It was also nice to see how many resources the school provided for students who needed extra help. Whether it was through tutoring, after-school programs, or even special support in specific classes, Coronado High School made sure that no student felt left out. Although my experiences at Coronado High were mostly positive, there is always room for improvement. Freshman: Southwest CTA is a very good magnet school with a diverse selection of programs! Often times, the teacher are great and easily approachable. The only complaint I have about it is that it has no music or sports. The administration don't think music or sports would help their image as a "professional" school. However, SWCTA also has many great clubs and organizations. For example, I am currently in HOSA and speech & debate. HOSA is well-organized and is a national organization. Alum: I went to Explore Knowledge Academy (EKA) from the time I was in first grade until I graduated. I grew with the school as it continued to evolve. EKA is a college prep school and it is best to view it as such to understand its set up. EKA focuses on projects. Meaning every class in almost every quarter, a project is due. This is to help teach kids public speaking, a common fear, deadlines, structural organization, and making tactile objects, amongst many others. The school is much smaller than regular public schools, making it extremely personable and creates strong relationships with teachers and other students. However, sine it is a college prep school, there are few opportunities in sports as academics is the main focus. The atmosphere is very competitive and almost every student is in clubs and activities, or vying to create clubs. The program is very STEM oriented. Senior: I have been attending Pinecrest Academy Cadence since it first opened in 2016 back when I was in fifth grade. Over the years I have had the chance to experience all the school has to offer, it had many different electives to choose from that include award winning performing arts, CTE courses, and many more. The class sizes are considerably small since this is a K-12 Charter school, around 200 students being the average amount in each class. The teachers and admin get to personally know each student which has been very beneficial for my peers and I because it allowed for us to be able to communicate with them whenever we need help. I had a variety of negative experiences under old management, concerns from parents being ignored, unlicensed staff teaching etc. Under the management change the school has improved significantly. Junior: Spring Valley High School has been pretty good for me so far! My teachers have been very helpful and nice, though of course, there are certainly teachers here that are not good to say the least. But, overall, I'd say it is a really good school. We have plenty of APs and we have an IB program. We have a large variety of electives that are pretty good. I can definitely vouch for the art classes we have here, though other electives vary on how well they are. Alum: I attended Palo Verde for all 4 years of my high school career. I did not mind the school all that much. I took advantage of all the school had to offer - I played sports, ran numerous clubs, and participated in the school's IB program. The rigorous courses I took prepared me for college and the leadership positions I earned taught me how to lead and work with other people. However, the school does need more teachers (as do all the schools in Clark County), could benefit from being more eco-friendly (they could add recycling measures and encourage students to pick up after themselves), and need to keep at least a few honors classes per subject and grade level (I understand that the school wishes to become more prestigious, but not all people are book-smart; both the students and the school would benefit more if students can work on their academic level with teachers willing to help).
