Senior: Great athletics. Great academics. School is safe to attend. The counselors are always available and willing to help a student out. We have a therapy dog on campus. Lots of great resources for kids with special needs. The library is stock full. We have school of choice in our school district, and most kids will choose our school over others. Junior: As a junior at PCHS, I feel that our school does well with academics. The school offers a lot of IB classes and a few AP classes, as well as tons of honors and regular classes. This ensures that every student will succeed in the classes they choose to take. The teachers are pretty helpful, even during this pandemic they have tried their best to connect with their students. The school offers a lot of sports and clubs to participate in, as well as things in music and the arts. They should probably put more funding into the arts; however, as they do not put nearly as much funding into music/the arts as they do sports. Alum: Gull Lake provided many opportunities for students who were willing to commit to their academics as well as the various extracurricular activities that the district offers. Alum: Although from the outside, the school looks rather bland, it really is the people and experiences that come from the wonderful four years spent there. Even though Kalamazoo Christian is a small school, there are many activities that are available each semester. I engaged in basketball, tennis, theater, band, and the National Honor's Society. While others felt stuck in a small town I felt like I was thriving. I loved Mattawan high school, and I gained the best experiences imaginable. Senior: Plainwell High School is a very supportive school. They have clubs and activities for everyone. Classes are a decent size so that students can get the help that they need. There are a lot of special education services but it would be nice if students had a mental health counselor at the school. Students have lots of opportunities to challenge themselves. They can take dual enrollment classes at a local college, take AP classes, and can even take CLEP tests for college credit. This saves students tons of money. Something that can be improved on at the high school is that there should be more advanced placement courses offered. Senior: I have always went to Otsego since kindergarten and the full twelve years have been amazing! I absolutely love the staff and the passion and dedication they have to make sure their students succeed in their education. Senior: I like Parchment High School. I'd say the best part about it is the teachers. There is not one teacher there who doesn't care about their students and their success. They aren't lazy and went above and beyond to provide their students with the best education. Parchment High School is a smaller school, which entails a tighter-knit community. It seems like everyone knows each other which is what sets it apart from other local schools that are bigger in size of student population. Extra curriculars, such as sports and the arts, are well-funded when necessary, due to the hard work of the members of the community. The only area in which it can be improved upon is diversity. Multiculturalism is a vital aspect of life, and should be highly encouraged in adolescence. However, located in rural southwest Michigan, there isn't much diversity as it is. While Lawton may not have the most ethnic diversity, there are numerous elements that positively counterbalance that. Junior: My experience with Kalamazoo Central has been pretty good overall. The learning aspect is fine, most teachers are very thorough and knowledgeable about what they’re teaching, making learning here easy and sometimes fun. The social aspect is also pretty good as well. School events are very fun and exciting with a good turnout of students most of the time. The student culture is also very bonded, with most people of all grades and backgrounds finding common bondage through school activities. Senior: My experience at Delton Kellogg High school was one of the best I don’t think it could have gotten any better. The school is small so getting help was simple because everyone reached out to you, you didn’t have to look for someone to find help. Making friends in such a small community was effortless everyone was inviting and would make you feel like you belong. Their athletics aren’t the best but I will say the teams that they create are once in a life time, you create a bond with so many different people without being forced to like each other. With Delton being such a small town anyone would do anything in their power to help you stay on your feet and continue in the right path with growing up and becoming that person you want to be. Also with small student to teacher ratio you were able to understand a little bit more of what you were learning and for someone like me who liked getting good grades this was very beneficial for me to understand what I was doing wrong.... Senior: I love the school community at Allegan High School. It is very welcoming there and for the most part everyone gets along. There aren't many cliques which you may typically see in high schools. The teaching staff is very humble and open to the students. Not only do I enjoy the teaching staff, I also enjoy all of the coaches at Allegan High School. Everyone who works for the school puts the student's needs first and that is my favorite part about my high school. Our school is a little small and some may say old which could be improved, but I wouldn't change anything else. The school offers a variety of classes as well as an off campus technical school for upper classman to get a head start and further look into their specified fields of study. We also have lots of extracurricular opportunities for our students including sports, drama, music, and specific clubs. Junior: At Pennfield high school the environment here is very friendly. Many of the staff, as in teachers, are very welcoming and try to help us achieve what we need to get to college or a trade school. I am having a great time, especially with school sports. All the soccer coaches here are willing to take the time and tell us what we need to do to be the best we can be. I am very grateful for them and what they have been doing for me and my teammates. Our school always provides an opportunity to get help if we need it. Seminar days are the days we can take the time to get some quality one on one time with the teachers. What I do wish that some of our teachers could be better at is not being lazy. I feel the less lazy and more outgoing they are the more they inspire the students to do the same.
