Senior: Senior here, and I loved my experience... mostly! Some teachers are better than others, but the majority of my teachers are intellectually engaging and really care about their students. The student body isn't particularly diverse, but there is an effort being made to mitigate that and to better support out BIPOC students. The best thing about Walker's is unquestionably the way that we've been encouraged to speak our minds and challenge the system. For this empowerment alone I have to recommend the school. Of course, there are downsides, administration can be stuck in its ways, and one often feels powerless to change our school. Senior: The biggest thing I've learned at GHS is how to seize the opportunity and at GHS, there are plenty of opportunities. There are many classes and clubs to choose from. With each commitment I've made at GHS, I've walked away a better person. Whether it was a cheer that broke me down and built me up constantly or unified theatre that brought me a new perspective, I was continually learning and growing. I can't say GHS is easy, it's rather tough for a public school. However, the reward in the curriculum outweighs any sleepless nights. The staff care about each student and want them to succeed... well at least most of them. I can't blame some of my teachers for being cold, I would too if I dealt with increasingly entitled students for the past 20 years. Senior: I loved my experience at Hall. The teachers and staff are for the most part accommodating and helpful if you seek them out for academic support. The sports teams at Hall are generally very good and we have always had a great athletics program. The counselors here are very helpful for all things involving college, but they definitely lack in the mental health department. The atmosphere at Hall is very competitive academically which can be stressful for students. It is the social norm at Hall to take multiple AP classes and counselors sometimes even encourage students to drop a lunch period (not all counselors do this but I've heard that some do). Although Hall can be competitive and they lack an understanding of mental health issues, our school is always willing to change and they encourage students to discuss their concerns with staff. Senior: My best experiences come down to going to school everyday and seeing a smile on all my teachers faces. It makes the learning environment so much better knowing they love their jobs. To add on, most staff is friendly and always understanding the students and problems they may be going through. Worst experiences would be recently when the school has amped up their security. I understand why, but it is almost suffocating. School used to be fun when students could hang out in common areas but now we are confined to certain areas and we even get in trouble if we are in the hallway without a hall pass. To add on, you cant even leave the cafeteria to go to the bathroom, water fountain or vending machine without getting hounded by a million questions. Over half the bathrooms in the school are closed due to them being destroyed and students vaping. Senior: When I first came here the students weren't very accepting of the new kids because we were here for basketball. That's what brought us to the school. we are all from public schools so we are different socially then them. But the academics were ok not the best but not the worst. This year there are a lot more kids and no one really has a problem with the new kids anymore. the academics got better they filled my schedule up with all classes. I have one study hall. Freshman: The school is probably one of the best in the area: great teachers, good design/ease of use, and great classes. Outside of classes, the extracurriculars are outstanding. There are things like Model UN, Science Olympiad, and Robotics. Most people attend at least one after-school activity, which are incredibly enjoyable. The food is a place where the school could improve; grease often soaks the trays, food is cold, and overall seems like there hasn't been much effort put into it. Works Here: Emmanuel Christian Academy has such a welcoming atmosphere. I am a newer staff member, but the staff already here completely welcomed me in. I can already see how much the students love their teachers and how they are thriving in this school environment. I was a public school student myself, and I would have loved to an experience like ECA instead! They offer so much, from a strong educational program to sports to music classes and lessons to teaching the Bible. Alum: Bristol Central High School was one of my favorite school out of all the school I’ve attended to, some things that made this school amazing was the social interactions and the no judgement atmosphere that drew me into loving this school. Bristol Central High School was presented as a better school than our rival Bristol Eastern High School, the football team had a blast playing against them and I had fun at the cheerful pep rally’s hosted each year. I participated in the dance team which most girls were on and off track leaving many confused and behind. Math was my least favorite subject which made the teachers not like me so much, but I asked many questions and most was gladly willing to answer them for me. This school had many fighting at 7 in the morning to girls crying in the bathroom, smoking in the biggest stall that included 5 others people crowded in it. As a student who just completed my junior year and has taken at least 7 courses each year, this means I have had the opportunity to be taught by over 21 different teachers. This is a great opportunity for students to make connections with as many staff members as possible. While some seek a technical school to focus on a trade of interest, Newington High School has four different academies: engineering, culinary, medicine, and business. After our freshman year, we have the opportunity to enroll which exchanges a credit requirement for competing an internship in our field of interest. Alum: Windsor High has some of the best teachers out there, in all departments, but especially in the science department. The administration tries to encourage student involvement in activities and policy. Sometimes the school felt unsafe, as there were many fights. For a while, administration resorted to collective punishment due to the fighting, and the ability to use the bathrooms was restricted for months for every student. Since then, it has been changed to e-hallpass which seems to have helped the issues of safety and students rights to use the bathroom. Windsor offers many programs and clubs so it is easy to find a niche, which I appreciated. I believe the most glaring issue is the lack of communication between the various administrators, as well as the communication between administrators and teachers.
