Sophomore: The Early College at Guilford has a great community and great teachers. Although the trailers aren't the best, the environment overall is great. The school has an atmosphere towards academics. The first two years, especially Sophmore year, are the hardest because of AP classes, although you can get a lot of credit. Senior: Greensboro Day School is very supportive academically and in the college-prep sense. The teachers want you to succeed, and it is easy to communicate with them both inside and outside of school. The environment focuses on honor, and it is a safe environment considering all of the security measures in place. As for the student life, it is very heavily sports focused with less focus on the arts and academics. It is not very diverse, and students often appear to be unaware of their privilege and position in society due to being at a private independent school. GDS can often be more of a bubble than it intends to be. Junior: I love it here! there are great opportunities that are offered, that you won't find at a "normal" public high school you are district to. Senior: My time at Atkins has been one to remember, I have grown so much not only academically but because of the people I have been surrounded by. Atkins offers a diverse culture in which students of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, academic levels, and fields of interest are all placed within the same four walls creating a cohesive environment that drives growth in both teachers and students. Junior: The teachers are excellent! One can have all other characteristics be awful, but the teachers are simply the highlight. It reminds me of medieval scholastic scholars and the founding of the first universities, where pupils would eagerly sit at their tutor's feet. Alum: Reagan High School was always an enjoyable experience for me since freshman year. Teachers were excellent and I was able to develop strong connections with lots of them. Classes and programs were all amazing and really helped to enhance my high school experience. Junior: I have been at Bishop McGuinness for all 3 years of my high school career. I have had a positive experience being a student here. Parent: Westchester provided my child with cozy, idyllic childhood. Initially I was concerned that he would be too sheltered. But the nurturing environment actually gave my child an opportunity to develop strong sense of identity. Kids raised at Westchester are generally confident and have good character. This school’s academic is only as good as your child’s efforts. In elementary school, the school encourages the students to keep moving up in reading and vocabulary at his own pace. My child read at near college level by the time he moved onto middle school. The teachers do push the students a lot. It depend on the your child whether he will respond. My child did and received a top notch education. This is evidenced by his ERB scores. My child writes better than I did in college. He has solid foundation in math and science. Senior: Overall I've had a pretty good experience at Grimsley. I liked the size and diversity of the campus and most of the teachers are really nice and are always willing to help. Coming in playing sports I would say that we have pretty good coaches and good sports teams which makes a really fun and competitive environment. The facilities are pretty good however it's an old school so some buildings need to be renovated pretty bad. The cafeteria food is also not that good, but I know a lot of that has to do with restrictions on school lunch. I came to Grimsely from a private school so it was a very new environment for me that ended up being really good for me. I've made a lot of friends here and I feel like the classes that I take have prepared me for college pretty well. Parent: Cornerstone has been challenging, safe and tight-knit community for both of my children. There are events for elementary, middle and high school that are well-attended and supported by the PTO. The teachers love the students and their job and it shows! The school is safe, calm and well-run. My children have enjoyed all of their classes, as well as the sports, field trips and especially the AP offerings. We are so glad that we took a chance 10 years ago and enrolled in a brand new charter school that’s pillars are rigorous academics, character education and parent involvement. My daughter got into all 10 schools she applied to and earned scholarships to most of them. Our son is on the same track and we can’t wait for his accept letters to roll in this winter. Both are thankful for the opportunity to attend a school that focuses on the whole child and not just standardized test scores. If you are lucky enough to get into Cornerstone, accept the spot. Alum: I just graduated. The teachers were awesome, only had one bad one in first grade. Some are tough, but they all care about you a lot. There is not a football team, so our outing was always basketball games or a neighboring school's game. The students there, however, are all brats (rich kids mainly).
