Senior: Although I like to think I have gone to Oakwood my whole life, I am glad that I haven’t. I love my high school, the old architecture and the small class sizes. I love how I see my friends when I walk down the hallways and I love being able to great my teachers as I walk into class. However, my high school is known for snobby white rich kids with old money. There are specific kids in my grade who don’t show up to class, who don’t study for tests or pay attention. Kids who think that they don’t need to try because their parents are rich. I am glad that I wasn’t necessarily raised that way. While my parents are well set, I was taught that nothing in life will just be handed to me. So Oakwood bothers me in that sense, and I think that the attitude of the students here should change. I find myself getting excited to wake up at 5 in the morning to go to early lab. I know, weird. Alum: My overall experience at Chaminade Julienne was a positive one! I was a pillar in the performing arts department, thanks to the staff who made me feel comfortable enough to do so. The best parts of attending Chaminade Julienne are its inclusivity and diversity. No one is shunned from being themselves. The worst parts of Chaminade don't come from Chaminade itself but from the cracks in the walls that let the outside world in. Senior: Archbishop Carroll High school is a private Catholic school in Dayton, Ohio that prides itself on 99% of graduating seniors attending college after high school. This school is definitely for academics and college preparation. Carroll has many college AP classes and also has a college - share where you can take college classes at local colleges while in high school. It is not too competitive in athletics, except for Track, Cross Country, and Soccer. I had exceptional teachers that are always willing to tutor and stay after school to help with anything. When I was out sick, teachers made sure that all work was made up to not affect any grades negatively. I was also very well prepared for AP exams and even the ACT my junior year. Parent: Legacy has been the greatest blessing to our family! My greatest prayer when my kids started at Legacy was that my kids would be well cared for. My prayer has been answered abundantly! We have kids that are in Jr. High and their only complaint is that they didn't start at the school when they were in 1st grade! My son had a hard time adjusting to school after coming from homeschool. The teachers were AMAZING! They worked with him, encouraged him, and pushed him to do more than he thought he could. He is doing SO well now! It has been life transforming! One day at drop off, I saw my son's math teacher in the hall. She came up and gave me the biggest hug (this was before covid😊) and told me she was praying for me. I appreciate that the administrators, staff, and teachers don't claim to be perfect, but challenge us all to work together, to prefer others to talk through things instead of walking away in anger. Alum: I had both highs and lows during my three years at Beavercreek High School. I'm relieved to have more pleasant memories than unpleasant ones. Parent: Our son started at Dayton Christian 4 years ago and we're thrilled with our experience in pre-K-2nd grade, especially during COVID. The school administration saw the urgency to return children to the classroom and normalcy as soon as possible. Our son is far beyond where his peers in public school are education-wise. The teachers' love for our children is apparent as well. In return, the school began a mission to create competitive compensation for the teachers that will help with retention and pay them their true worth. The addition of the gym and a renovation to create a new student life space for performance art, chapel, etc., shows the desire for long-term school improvements. The school shows responsibility in their approach for large capital projects by ensuring they have funding up front with multiple quotes for projects thus being good stewards of our money. Senior: I love my school! Every teacher I ever had would do anything for my success. They offer their time and resources to help students learn. They listen to our struggles- both in school and in our personal lives. I was quarantined this year for being in close contact with someone who was diagnosed with the Corona Virus. My teachers went out of their ways to set up meetings with me, they hand delivered my work to do at home, and they even messaged me to see how I was handling the extra time alone. However, as a student athlete and performer, I have been very disappointed with the school's lack of recognition to certain students. I go to a school that highly values football, and tends to dismiss the successes of others. Nearly all sport funding goes toward football, even though several other sports outperform the football team year after year.
