Alum: Father Lopez was an excellent choice for my academic and spiritual development throughout my high school years. The courses offered are rigorous and engaging, and class sizes are small enough that each student has individual attention from the teacher. I had the pleasure of learning from many great teachers during my time at Father Lopez, and I was always confident that my class was receiving the instruction we deserved. Regarding personal growth, in-school retreats throughout the schoolyear provided an excellent opportunity for reflection and growth, and I learned about my Catholic faith and spirituality in addition to academics. Father Lopez emphasized service to the community, and there were many opportunities to practice this: the school offered mission trips, certain school days filled with packing food for the homeless, and field trips oriented around helping others in the community. Junior: I like my school because I'm able to see my friends at lunch since there are no lunch blocks separating the time. I wish the option to leave campus was available for grades other than 12th graders. I know the school was built in the 70's, which is why I think it's time for the school to get a little refresh! I think the school should be repainted, because the student paintings on the wall just make things look so tacky. The school could use a modern repaint and reconstruction, as well as expansion since the traffic to get to classes is a lot. A better cafeteria would be nice, since the one we have is very small and definitely couldn't hold more than one tenth of the school. The cafeteria could definitely use a new AC unit as well. Junior: At University High School, I love all of the academies that they offer. For example, Engineering Academy, Robotics Academy, Biomed Academy, etc. I love all the people and friends I was able to meet attending University High School. Senior: Before entering Atlantic High school, I attended private school majority of my school years. Entering at Atlantic High School my freshman year was a complete culture shock for me. I didn’t go into the cafeteria for the first week. Over the course of the following weeks, I found myself struggling to find myself. And then the pandemic hit… it made me rethink a lot of things. As the schools years continued, teachers took me under their wing, pushed me, encouraged and helped me identify me strengths. I began to utilize my strengths and I began to flourish. High school was beginning to become what I always dreamed. Without the guidance of some of my teachers, I wouldn’t be the Lillian I am today. Senior: I am starting my senior year at New Smyrna Beach High School. The school has great opportunities with not only sports but academics. I have been able to get my Associate of Arts Degree through the program dual enrollment. New Smyrna has been great helping me through every step of the way telling me what classes I will receive high school and college credit for. Also, I have been able to participate in sports at this school and it has led me to great opportunities to make connections and also see what I can do in my future. Junior: Deland High is a unique school. It's extensively diverse in both the students and teachers, also extending to the classes available and sports to choose from. The availability of differing classes to choose and ways for us teenagers to get out some aggressions in sports ensures a good possibility of college preparation and enables students to work with counselors to select a path that best suits them through high school. Many different types of students (i.e. race, culture, religion, etc.) attend and allow young people to develop social understanding and learn who they want to identify with. Finding these many cliques throughout the school is a great way for students to make friends and feel a little more welcome instead of dreading the thought of attending a school where they don't fit in. It isn't a pristine school, but it's not supposed to be. Any public school will have it's trouble makers, which is unfortunately a clique that students find popular. It is still a good school.... Junior: Deltona high school offers a lot regarding clubs and academies like health academy, rho kappa, national honors society and so much more. The school also is trying to make every student move up to things like honors, pre-aice and aice classes which has its pros and cons. Overall Deltona high school is a pretty good school but like every school there are issues. For instance, a lot of the teachers have left within the past year leaving us to have very crammed classes. Junior: My overall experience with Mainland Highschool as a junior is a very unique experience. During my time in middle school I never knew what to expect coming into High School just like any other middle school student, however one thing I will say is that Mainland High School has transformed me into a new individual. It allowed me to initiate a self finding journey, explore new interests, and permit me to involve myself with many diversified students and faculty. I've transformed from a shy girl to an outspoken young lady from attending this school. As a school, Mainland is well known for the school spirit, the sports, and the diversity we bring. The worst experiences I've faced are normalized high school experiences such as outgrowing people, the work pile up, and incompatible personalities. Something I would love to see alter is increased assistance to students, better treatment to teachers within the staff, and finer productive & constructive attitudes towards one another.... Middle School Student: i love all the clubs at the school. One thing i would change is the favorite picking in sports/ clubs. I would also have a stronger system in bullying and take situations a little more seriously. This is because if not treated with the severity of the situation, it could lead to serious issues. Alum: I graduated May 25th 2022 at Pine Ridge High school. Over four years, I have gained over 500 community service hours. This is from theatre, band and soccer In each environment, the end results have had a special place in my heart. From opening shows, music concerts to wins and loses at late night games, each experience has taught me so much. Because I was a captain, I have learned to be quick to take on any task to support others. I always ensure that everyone is growing, as musicians and as people. Because everyone looks up to me as a person and musician, I always need to set the expectations I want others to follow.
