Senior: The school has strong ethics and intelligence. Many of the students and faculty are respected and treated as equals. Students are always challenged with their courses and can most always have an increase in difficulty level if needed. Teachers are humble and are easily approachable, but in the past few years have been leaving often. Many of the students are becoming attached to teachers that leave very soon. The change from a normal school to a boarding assesses the strengths of a student and brings them to the surface. Allowing many students to blossom as their own person able to research and find a strong career path. MSSM molds many students to a fine young adult, but because of the small bubble around MSSM few students also are heavily troubled with seclusion and find that a normal high school would be better suit. Senior: At Houlton High School I feel that my experience is one of the best options for a small town to have. I hear many students from neighboring schools complain about teachers and education, but at Houlton, I have never once doubted the education system or disliked a teacher of mine! Students and parents from Houlton’s community have proved time and time again to be kind and generous to everyone. This kindness carries on throughout the high school. Students are raised to continue generosity and a caring mindset while school is in session. Cliques are a well-known aspect to high schools, but in Houlton I gladly see students around my school including everyone and making sure nobody feels left out. Senior: I went to Southern Aroostook Community School since I was three years old and going into Pre-K, I have been there all the way up through and I am now a Senior. My experience there has been great, the class sizes are small which allows teachers one-on-one time with students who have questions. The sports are open to anyone who is interested. They are great ways to make friends and learn team work, leadership, and responsibility. High school students are offered the opportunity to take on higher level college course through nearby colleges as a way to advance their education. Alum: Most teachers had a good understanding of the topics they were teaching, well run. The other staff(non teachers) were very helpful in the transition from middle school to highschool and then again in the transition from highschool to college. My current University had great communication to my highschool which was helpful. Science class had lots of hands on experiments and labs. Senior: While there are not many extracurricular activities (especially besides soccer, basketball, track, and other sports), Community High School in Fort Kent offers a very safe and peaceful learning environment. The crime rate in Fort Kent is very, very low, and growing up in this community has made me feel very safe and secure at school. Not only is it peaceful, the learning environment, due to a smaller student body than most schools, is very personal and individualized. This gives students the opportunity to have more of the teacher's attention fixated on them equally as much as the other students. This helps students to progress faster than students at schools with higher student body populations.
