- Houghton, NY
- Rating 3.42 out of 5 19 reviews
Parent: Houghton Academy is a very small 6-12 Christain school in a rural town in western NY. Over half of the student body are boarding students from all over the world which adds a rich cultural aspect to the experience. For its small size, it has a good range of student activities and resources. The faculty and staff work tirelessly to engage and educate the students and are willing and able to spend many hours of one-on-one time with students who need extra help. With such a small student body, the school feels more like a family than a school. The multiple ages and cultural groups flow freely among each other and everyone is known by name. Due to its size and location, it is a very safe environment where learning and personal growth thrive. One of the school's goals is college preparation so the academics are challenging but rewarding. Overall, Houghton Academy is an excellent institution that effectively prepares its students for higher education and life beyond school.

Senior: I have been going to AACS since kindergarten. It’s been a great experience growing up in this school. It has a good teachers who are passionate about what they teach, and who care about their student’s education. I think this is very important to a student. It was extremely helpful to me throughout high school having teachers who love what they do. I became more interested in my work, more willing to study, and more willing to participate in my classes. It is all round a nice campus. It has a beautiful building and great sports facilities.

Niche User: The community, the sports teams and the teachers are all great. The best part about this school is that most all your classmates have been with you since Pre-k so when you all step across the stage on graduation day, there is so much pride and support from everyone around you. ALL of your classmates become your family & I know you don't get that in big city schools. Many of your classmates will move away for college and for work, but those teachers, parents, coaches and classmates will always be there to welcome you when you come back to visit.
