Wayland High School
Senior: For me personally, I liked the small, interconnected, and overall community atmosphere that Wayland Union High School had. Averaging about 200 people per graduating class, everybody knew everybody. Some people like that aspect. Some people don't. For me, it was a fairly positive experience, and as soon as I stuck my neck out a little bit, it became all the more entertaining.
A few upperclassmen eventually showed me what Wayland was really about; community. The football games and the school dances, which I used to dread, became some of the events I looked forward to the most. I walked through the halls and wasn't afraid to yell and joke around with people. I said good morning to students that I didn't even know. I included kids who didn't have a table at lunch. These were the things that the upperclassmen did, the exact ones who showed me the light.
Coming out of my shell a little earlier would have made my years at Wayland Union High School all that more memorable.
