Senior: The school system is amazing. It has great teachers, classes, students, campuses, buildings, and extracurricular. My favorite thing about the school system is the Carroll County Career and Technology Center (CCCTC). I attended CCCTC for one semester during my senior year and, despite Covid-19, the experience was wonderful. The teachers there are great and really know what they are talking about. Being able to gain a hand-on experience in a specific field to prepare you for a possible career is an invaluable opportunity.

Junior: Lots of “have” and “have not” areas in Frederick County....therefore quite a range between wealthy vs lower income. Oarents working 2 and 3 jobs are not around to help their children with homework, etc.
Our particular school (Gov Thomas Johnson high) had 68 HOMELESS students last year. HOMELESS!
It is heartbreaking to even think of children living with their families in shelters, or going from one friend’s sofa to another...with no place to call their own.
Most FCPS staff is wonderful and needs to be paid more, but like anywhere, there are others who are just punching the time clock.
Would love to see more tutoring offered at all schools, as it can be hard to compete with families who can afford SAT prep courses, etc. COULD REALLY help the lower income families...many who must take public transportation to after school activities.
It’s a vicious cycle...would be great to lift EVERYONE up so that no outside funds need to be spent by families.
