Niche User: Overall, I couldn't be happier with the Dunn school. The educators I have got to know are passionate about their work and the school has developed a personalized learning approach that seems to be working well. It is proficiency based, yet the focus is still on the students, not just test scores. Last year I had concerns about the validity and the time requirements of the Smarter Balanced testing, I was able to opt my child out easily with one email and she was able to participate in alternate activities. I felt my wishes and concerns as a parent were respected. There is a positive school culture that is very student centered. They have a lot of after school programing that supports well-rounded students; art, music, drama, Destination Imagination, Mad Science, lego robotics, physical activity before and after school. Many of the activities are free and very innovative. Free before school physical activity programs to support student learning throughout the day for example, and a free weekly after school kayaking program in the fall. They are very resourceful, the school is located in Pineland, which is beautiful and the student are able to use their gardens, farms and pool in their academic programing.
