Sophomore: Though I’ve only been attending this school for one year, many have been very welcoming. It’s been a pleasant experience considering I was very nervous to be coming to a new school. The best thing that I experienced at this school is the people and the sports. I’ve made so many new friends and rekindled lots of old friendships since I’ve came to Thomas Jefferson, and it really has made everything a lot easier. Speaking of friends, it’s also so fun to be able to play sports with them. The worst part about my school is how bad the internet and computers are, and how old the building is. The air conditioning often goes out and it is hard to focus, and even more difficult when the internet never works with the already slow computers. It was so bad sometimes I borrowed my moms laptop to bring to school, but I couldn’t do that everyday. These are 100% my favorite and least favorite things about the school that I attend. Junior: I have been at Liberty Magnet High School since my freshman year, where I've seen changes within the past two school years, from new staff members, to rule changes, and even new faces from incoming freshman or transferring students. I like how this school promotes students' independece by having an open campus; giving students an option to eat lunch either inside or outside. Additionally, students are allowed (if permitted by their teacher) to work independently or with a group outside. Though, our school could use some more diversity, teachers are welcoming and promote and productive but also creative work environment; encouraging students to want to do thir best work. Senior: I think that Ruston High School is definitely a really great school. I entered the school as a freshman during Covid, and while it was a huge time of distress for us all, RHS navigated through the unknown very well. I have enjoyed the constant student voices being allowed to serve in the school, and I also enjoy all of the ways RHS incorporates fun activities and ways to keep students engaged during a time where learning might not be the easiest. Although the school is wonderful, I would change the safety of our school. Sophomore: I am somewhat fond of my experience at Riverdale. There are so many good and spirited people there who make school such a good time. I had begun to look forward to school because of the people. I also love being apart of the Riverdale High School Scottisu Brigade but it is not for everyone. It is hard work and can be really enjoyable but also stressful. While there are some good teachers and students at Riverdale, there are also some bad ones. While I was still able to pass my freshman year, I still wish the school took the time to choose the best teachers/administrators for the job. Certain teachers/administrators should not have been in the situations they were in and while they had their good moments, they weren't really favored by the students. There were some teachers who were still adjusting to being new to the school so I'll cut them some slack but there are a lot of them who could have done better at focusing on the needs of students and applying that to the curriculum.... This school operates acceptance on a lottery system and in itself offers students access to a high quality education system compared to the surrounding public systems. The education in the sense is way more beneficial in terms of academia and skills whether it be through future schooling or engagement with trades/careers. There has been clear attempts to set every student for success. However the process of trying to get into this school can be hectic and overwhelming as everything is based off chance. Junior: I have had some the best teachers who make their lessons fun and easier to understand for all students and have created long lasting memories. I enjoy it. The campus stays decently clean. Some improvements could be made in the counseling department. When I brought an issue to my grade counselor about a student I worried about for many reasons, and how their behavior affected others. I mentioned, in detail, the actions the student took towards my friend who was not comfortable bringing to the counselor themself. After the meeting with the counselor, I saw no action taken upon the situation. I also feel that admin should listen to students when informed of a teacher hindering their ability to learn. Such as multiple reports of a teacher not teaching unless admin is present in the room, and students resorting to teaching each other. Junior: Neville isn’t just a school to its students. It’s a home. As a freshman when I first walked through those double doors I immediately felt welcome with multiple students, teachers, and administrators greeting me and asking me questions about myself to get to know me better. Neville’s teachers do their very best to not only help students pass their class, but really learn and understand the material being taught. This in turn produces more college-ready students. Although academics at Neville are stressed, it does offer other aspects such as sports. Neville has a wide range of sports to choose from whether it be anything from football to volleyball to fishing. Alum: Morgan City High School is a perfect school for anyone, there are many activities that go on throughout the school year including pep rallys, and cultural assemblies as well as dances like homecoming, sadies, and prom. MCHS is diverse and very welcoming to each student. However, my best experience there was the help that’s provided academically as well as the athletics. I played volleyball and softball all four years of high school and those moments are where i made my best memories. The worst parts of my experience was that some of the teachers at mchs weren’t educating their students correctly. A lot of coaches are teachers for math and science and that’s where i struggled the most throughout high school because the coaches weren’t teaching. I feel that is what needs to be changed.
