South Texas Academy for Medical Professions
1 Niche Standout High Schools in Cameron County
- South Texas Independent School District, TX
Senior: Medical Academy is a school for those who like to challenge themselves. Throughout the 4 years I've been there, it definitely taught me to academically challenge myself for achievement. Courses are not too difficult, but can be overwhelming if you pile up and procrastinate on your work. There aren't too many clubs and most are not really active (except for FTK and HOSA). HOSA is a big deal at this school and a very good experience, so definitely sign up! The ambiance of the students is nice overall. Once this school starts blowing up with more incoming freshmen, the halls seem a bit hectic. I spent 3 years in the new campus in Olmito and the 2017-2018 has been the most packed of them all. All the staff is friendly and will help you right away. Any student wanting to pursue a medical career should definitely consider attending Medical Academy.

IDEA Frontier College Preparatory
- Public School
- Brownsville, TX
Senior: I have been at IDEA Frontier College Preparatory since the second grade and I am currently a senior. My past experiences with my school were as you can say an average from a normal student at any school but the only difference was the support system here at IDEA. The teachers, counselors, administrators, and coaches are so close to the students. Of course, the only thing that kept our secret hatred was the uniform policy. We have to wear our uniforms everyday except on Friday's where we can wear a college spirit shirt, blue jeans of course with a belt, black shoes, and shirt tucked in. Now that is one thing I hope the school would change because we students love to express at least one day of comfortable clothes. Either way, I loved attending my school because it was really a team and family type of environment. Also the fact that I joined the Cross Country and Track team since the 7th grade and bond between the sport and I are strong.

Los Fresnos High School
- Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District, TX
Alum: I myself went to Los Fresnos High School. I Graduated last year, June 2015. I have lived in the small town of Los Fresnos all of my life actually, all 19 years. My Experience with LFHS was very excellent! I enjoyed all of my years there. All of the teachers and the staff were very good. They really helped me out a lot and taught me so much. The food they served there was healthy but delicious at the same time. The clubs and activities they would have there were very fun as well! The students were super friendly, it was all one big family. I would highly recommend this high school.

Early College High School
- Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District, TX
High School Senior: My overall experience is perfection, it made me realize who I want to be in the future, who your true friends are, and of course which college I want to attend! Having to pick my favorite experience is a tough one due to the numerous experiences I have had here at Early College High School. One of them would be when we all go to Relay For Life in La Feria, Tx. This event that supports cancer and the families as well, it was a powerful moment and felt so much love there supporting those who didn't deserve that lifestyle. Another one would be at the end of the year celebrations of course! Everybody here celebrating the same thing as we move on to the next grade till we graduate, the whole atmosphere is always filled with joy and that's what makes ECHS unique. The infinite joy it gives to students/teachers and no other school can do that. To do all 4 years of high school will be insane, but ECHS would always be my number one choice because the place made me feel like I was number one.

Brownsville Early College High School
- Brownsville Independent School District, TX
Senior: If you thrive in small environments and want to get ahead in the college game, this school is perfect. Everyone here, from the staff to the students, are dedicated to their work, thus earning us the National Blue Ribbon Honors. The on-campus teachers do an excellent job at preparing the future upperclassmen for the schoolwork given at UTRGV. A draw back, though, is that there are no sports here, but their are more than enough clubs to participate in. The diversity here is also pretty low, due to the fact that BECHS is located in a predominantly hispanic area. Other than that, this school is an excellent place to learn at!
