Senior: Attending school in the David Douglas School District has been a really fantastic experience. The most special part of my high school experience in particular has been music. Being involved in the band program throughout high school has made every hardship more than worth it. I'm very fortunate to be able to say the worst parts of my high school experience were due to my own poor choices (getting behind on schoolwork and becoming overwhelmed.) The support that the district offers I think is really amazing, and although I didn't really take advantage of these resources while at school, I have seen these resources help so many people. Another thing I love about David Douglas is the staff. Every educator and staff-member I have interacted within the district has been warm and welcoming. Senior: What I would like to see changed in the math curriculum because algebra 2 is learning the same math as pre calculus which makes it difficult. Other: I am a senior at Parkrose High School, and also was an employee during the summer. Parkrose High School is an Avid Demonstration Site, meaning we use Avid standards and tools in most classes (even if you are not enrolled in Avid.) This, alongside understanding & personable teachers, has made my high school experience one where I felt supported academically. However, outside of academics I cannot say I felt supported. Alum: My experience in this school district was positive as I joined the district as a freshman in high school and was quickly welcomed. The sports provided allowed for me to meet many people before school even started! Besides from sports, I was involved in leadership which allowed for meeting many more people. Leadership lead to many opportunities whether it be meeting people in the community or even those outside the community. I got to meet many people in the district whether it be from other high schools, feeder schools, admin center people, etc. I am lucky to be in leadership and be able to meet these people. Senior: Within the Medford School District, I have witnessed what it means to have teachers who really care about their students and the environment they spend their days in. Teachers strive to maintain a safe learning environment that students can feel comfortable enough to share their opinions in without fear of being wrong. This act of nurture is what stands out to be within this district. Students are able to speak with teachers one on one about matters that may have nothing to do with school. I personally know this to be true because my mother teaches at South Medford High School and she provides for her students in more ways than sharing her knowledge. She gives them necessities they may be lacking such as hair brushes, deodorant, and socks. She takes home their dirty clothes and washes them when needed. Teachers in this district care for their students and that is clear to see. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to learn and grow amongst these inspiring teachers and facility.... Senior: The Mt. Angel School district is a wonderful place to go to school. I really like the small class size as you can really make connections with staff and your fellow classmates. As well as our school has really good atheletic programs. Although one downside that sort of just comes along with a smaller school is the rather limited variety of classes. Senior: I would like less one-sided beliefs and everyone hating on religion, and white people. Everything these days is all about LGBTQ+ stuff, and it's frankly stupid. The "inclusivity" has led to weak overly sensitive people who contribute nothing but yelling and hatred to society, I hate that my district supports this openly, and openly condemns Christianity of any kind. The best part of my school experience has been the music, specifically the band program. It has saved my life and given me something to look forward to every day. Alum: Overall, it was a lovely place to go to high school. The SES of everyone at the school is varied to provide a unique type of diversity in students who otherwise might not know eachother. I think that there used to be too much of an emphasis on the football program, but they are working to change that and spread out funds a little more equitably to other sports. Senior: Just at start of sophomore yr we had 5 forest fires where over 1500 families were left homeless. Our family lost ours & still have not recovered. School used online which was not good for me. Then came covid. We went back to a new school my jr yr. Many of my classmates & teachers did not return. We have great teachers & admin. I am one of very few multiethnics. Senior: I am so grateful for the opportunity to have been enrolled in Portland Public Schools ever since I was in Kindergarten. The best part of the Portland Public School's district is the diversity. I am so lucky to have the opportunity to connect with peers who come from different racial and ethnic backgrounds. Being able to learn from them in addition to learning from my teachers has been such a blessing! This year as I am a senior at McDaniel High School, I am hoping to see more community building develop in the coming years. My school has done a great job of demonstrating inclusivity but there is always room for improvement, and I am looking forward to seeing how the Portland Public School district as a whole grows in McDaniel High School's CREED values; Community, Respect, Education, Equity, and Diversity.... Senior: The overall Highschool experience at North Marion was pretty good and memorable. A few of the staff there are amazing and helpfull. I think the school is not well funded though considering teacher pay is pretty low and we don't have enough funding for new sport equipment. Some of my favorite moments in school was being in class with my friends because it would make time go by fast. Instead of looking at the clock all the time and sulking, I would be engaging in the curriculum and learning. Senior: I have loved being in the Phoenix Talent School district! The class sizes are small, the schools are on the smaller size so staff members are able to get to know the students individually. The have been exceptional up until COVID hit. When the pandemic hit the district had a really hard time communicating and including everyone (students that felt uncomfortable attending school especially). They did a wonderful job ensuring that all students would have food even though they were home and did everything they could to keep all employees employed. The district just built a brand new high school that is absolutely gorgeous! It has wonderful new facilities that will permit new opportunities and improve mental health. The incredible amount of windows and a more functional floor plan will allow for a safer more inclusive environment. Staff members truly care for the students and seem to love their jobs.
