Senior: My overall experience learning in East Irondequoit Central School District has been very good. Our district is very diverse which allows for students to have friends of all types of race and learn about different cultures. We are also a 1:1 district which means from grades first through eighth the kids are given iPads and the high schoolers are given laptops. This has helped tremendously with my learning especially during a time like this. The one thing I would change about East Irondequoit Central School District is the amount of AP classes they offer. The district has less than 5 AP classes for high school students to take. Senior: I think that Cheektowaga Central is a great place to go to for school because the teachers are helpful and the classes are sometimes easy. I think people would learn a lot just by spending a few days at Cheektowaga Central. I think the one thing that I love the most is that when you meet a friend it opens a door to a whole new world of friends for you to make and also if you have trouble making friends just ask someone if you can sit next to them in lunch or at class I sure you could make a friend.... Senior: There is a tremendous amount of extracurricular and after school activities. You will all always be encouraged by teachers and students to join a variety of different sport teams help enrich your high school experience and to make new friends. Junior: My experience at Deer Park High School has been good but there are a few things that I think could be improved. I think teachers need to spend more time giving extra help to students. Some of my teachers offer extra help, but not all. This would help kids a lot in preparing for exams and understanding the curriculum. Our art and music programs are great. My school also has interesting clubs and good sports programs, however, the cheer program is lacking coaches. Works Here: I have been a substitute teacher for 12 years and I am very impressed with the curriculum. Although, I think some of the math in the lower primary classes is well beyond the students' capabilities. Also, there isn't enough play time for kindergarten and first grade. I would like to see more cursive taught. I do not believe in social promotions. Common sense tells you if a student can't do 2nd grade work, then they can't do 3rd grade. Alum: Going to Longwood have me a bunch of different experiences, while also shaping me into the person I am today. It brought me so many opportunities that other school wouldn’t offer. Such has the HOPE and HECIEP programs, many different AP and HONORS programs. Not only did the school give me the opportunity to grow academically but mostly athletically. It allowed me to form so many connections with coaches and teammates. Given that I have been running and competing my whole life shaped me into who I am today. My favorite parts were coming into school the next day after a big race and all the teachers have great conversations about me outcomes and creating such great bonds. Senior: I have gone to High School in District 3 for the last 4 years. I have had a great academic and creative experience. The commute from my home in Brooklyn has been quite easy. If I have any criticism, I woud have to say, that programming and programmming changes have made schedules often difficult but this is a typical problem in schools with large student populations. Also, the teachers on the whole are extremely professional and dedicated but as is often the case, the were a very few that had difficulty with their curricum. Senior: William Floyd is a large school with so much to offer. We have CTE programs that get our students ready for a career after high school. Other schools have to go to a Boces program, but ours is streamlined and part of our day. As an athlete, our athletics are Division 1 caliber and they are more than just a team playing a game. Teams become families, and coaches expect students to carry themselves with respect. We have a high percentage of poverty within the district, which allows for funding that other schools do not receive to be able to give the students the best education possible. William Floyd shapes character, it instills humbleness that you simply do not see in other Long Island communities. When others have their nose in the air without having to deal with real life issues everyday, we come together and lift each other up to the next step of a successful life ahead. Senior: The Valley Stream Central High School district is one of the top rated districts in the nation. My school specifically has been named a Blue Ribbon school by the US Department of Education. I have learned so much at my high school and the staff/teachers are phenomenal. Our district stresses dignity and staying dignified which our students embody almost everyday. The VSCHSD forms students to become leaders in the communities. There are many great qualities about the VSCHSD, but sometimes there are some hiccups, such as false school threats. These false threats have made students fear their safety going to school, however our school district reassures its students that they will be safe when going to school. Works Here: Just starting in Geneva this year as a fourth grade teacher, this is the 5th district I will have worked in. I have been blown away by the kindness, willingness to help, and overall culture. The new administration is amazing and I feel that joining this team of educators was a great choice! As much as I have tried not to compare it to my previous experience, I have come to the realization that the district I worked in last year was not doing things the way they should have been. Geneva offers a lot of extras to their students, I clouding dual language classes where they are able to start learning Spanish or Mandarin at a young age, which is the best two for students to learn a new language! Parent: As a North Babylon High School Alumni, I am proud of the education my children have gotten in my alma mata. Covid tested my children and the teachers. For the most part, there were no issues. But, of course there were the teachers who did not perform as they should have. Having said that though, my children perservered and did quite well. I think no matter what school you talk about there is always good and bad. Overall, I think my kids have gotten and are getting a great education. I love the majorithy of the teachers. I do wish we had a few more clubs and activities for the kids to choose from. Through sports, my kids have gained great friendships and respect for their coaches.
