Junior: I am a junior, rising senior, at Franklin High School. My time at FHS has been really fun, I think I had a great high school experience overall. I moved here when I was a rising seventh-grader and initially had a hard time finding my place in the school. It was very cliquey because almost all the students came from the intermediate school, so they knew each other. The teachers are nice but like any school, there are a few that you won't like. The diversity in all the schools is great. As a little black girl coming from a predominately white school in Bayonne, NJ, I was impressed. Alum: If I wanted to live in the suburbs as an adult, I would send my kids to West Orange schools. Their quality in teachers is very high---especially at the elementary and middle school levels. As a high schooler, the choice in classes is very diverse compared to other public schools. Others often mistake WOHS for an arts high school because of how emphasized their art programs are. Senior: Overall experience was good. I wish they offered more college ready resources. I feel as if most of the experiences given were not helpful in preparing me for college or preparing me on how to pay for college. The best of my experience is that I did form great relationships with the faculty and staff and I feel like they were all supportive with my educational experiences and helping me to succeed. The worst part was the course offerings. Again, I feel like the courses offered were not college ready courses. If I could change one thing I would like to see more workshops to help students like myself with filling out college applications. I would also like to see resources for financial aid.... Senior: Transferring to Rahway High School during my sophomore year has had its ups and downs. Coping with the new students and teachers and even familiarizing myself with the building was sometimes a struggle. But, reaching out to my guidance counselor and teachers I have grown a strong bond with over time, my time at Rahway has been amazing. I get a lot of help towards picking up my grades, becoming more healthy (physically and mentally), and becoming an overall great person in and out of school. Alum: North Brunswick Township High School (NBTHS) had a major impact on me. I had an amazing four years there. The diversity and inclusivity is such a significant part of my experiences. I met people from distinct cultural backgrounds and experiences. After George Floyd’s death, NBTHS created a student board to help address the students’ concerns and create spaces to have important discussions. It was necessary to have the challenging discussions and talk about the issues in our society. From moments and actions like these, I learned valuable lessons from my classmates and grew as a person. Another important aspect was the career-related classes. North Brunswick had engineering and business classes to help students determine their interests. These classes gave me an opportunity to try various subjects. Consequently, I was sure about my major. The community and academics of NBTHS played major roles during my time there. Junior: My experience at Egg Harbor Township so far has been interesting. All of my classes have been lovely. Administration is fair and always understanding. A few teachers have stood out to me at this school. Their kindness towards me never goes unnoticed and I always appreciate everything they do for me. School work has never been a huge struggle for me, but when it is, a teachers are always super helpful. I can’t say I can complain about much, but school lunches are gross! I had this garlic bread with cheese today and I couldn’t stomach more than two bites. On the other hand, all the lunch ladies are very sweet and helpful always. The after school activities are very organized and fun. It’s always a treat staying after school for a club and I think it’s a great and productive way to spend my afternoon rather then go home and take a nap. Senior: I started at Woodbury Junior High school and Immediately felt welcome. Both students and teachers greatly contributed to my positive experience. I am thankful for the AP and honors classes I had the opportunity to take through out high school. I am continually impressed by the effort faculty put in to ensure the success of their students. Teachers are going above an beyond, especially in the face of remote learning and social distancing. So many of the teachers have been supportive and encouraging of goals to become a music producer. Junior: I’m nearing my second half of my high school career as a junior and yet I feel at peace with my overall experience. The extracurricular activities within my school is what makes my school unique. As cliche as that might sound, it is true. Sure the educational system is decent, flawed in some areas, but open for criticism, and yet the attention to detail within the extracurricular activities cannot be ignored. Maybe I’m bias because although I have good grades,I struggle with mental health and choose to seek out clubs to distract myself from my anxieties. In clubs is were students feel normal, themseves, and seen. There are several levels of available courses for those interested in pursuing more challenging classes and those who need extra help. Most teachers are very motivations and provide support, although some fail to go the extra mile to encourage every single student. Senior: After taking on AP classes during my junior and senior classes, I realized how these classes are not as difficult they sound. Most of these classes like AP Spanish and AP Lit are focused on your time commitment and dedication. If you believe that you cannot handle these classes, then stay in the honors classes because once you start failing, it will be difficult for you to get back on your feet. Parent: My now 5th grader has been attending Brandt Elementary within the Hoboken Public School District since she was in PreK3. That’s 8yrs! We cannot say enough wonderful things about all the teachers we’ve had, the administration and the other families in our community. Senior: My school is like none other. We have a rotating schedule, open lunch, many active clubs and were even involved in passing our community law "25 Saves Lives". We are very involved with the helping of others and annually host a "Family Fun Night" for Make-A-Wish New Jersey where we raise thousands of dollars by means of various games, donations and auctions. If I were to change anything about my school it'd be our reputation because most people think we are bad because of the relative area we reside. Alum: From the time that i was a child, Winslow School district always got a bad reputation. Parents wanted the kids to be moved from that specific district in order to get a better education. I was one of those students who did switch to a choice school before my freshman year. I went back to Winslow halfway through my sophomore year of high school. What my parents and I realized is that Winslow isn't all that bad. It is what you make it. As long as you put in the necessary work while attending their school, you will get out of it what you put in it. The teachers and faculty are absolutely amazing there. they whole heatedly care for their students and what to see them pass.
