Senior: I've been in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District my whole life. I went to elementary school at Spring Garden and Meadow Creek, attended junior high at Harwood, and am currently enrolled at Trinity High School. This school district is among the top in Texas due to its academics, diversity, and high graduation rate of 99.5%. As far as academics go, HEBISD is unique because of the high level classes and programs that are offered like the International Baccalaureate Program or the BCTEA classes. HEBISD is also special because of its Spanish Immersion Program. I was in this program for 9 years and felt like I learned a lot about the language and culture. I personally have enjoyed growing up in this district because it's a very personal and community-based environment. I've always felt comfortable and encouraged by my amazing teachers and staff. Senior: I've been enrolled in the Richardson Independent School District since fall 2015. Since then i've had multiple ups and downs attending schools in this district. As a young black girl there is racial discrimination, unfairness, and bullying. Some schools don't do anything about it. I'd like to see some real leaders stand up to racial discrimination and bullying, especially to young black children in predominantly white neighborhoods and attend the predominantly white school. Moving to more diverse schools like Richardson High School really made a difference, they don't discriminate and they have many opportunities for minorities in school and for people who struggle with success.... Senior: I've been attending Harmony Public Schools of North Texas ever since I was in first grade. Now that I have one year left until I officially graduate from Harmony, I believe my almost 12 year experience at Harmony is valid. The best experiences at harmony has to be that I was given the wonderful opportunity to take dual credit courses which has helped a ton. The worst experiences I've had are probably some encounters with staff members, some whom I've never met would give me bad attitude or those who I did have a teacher showed they did not care about our education and would be of no help if we couldn't understand the lesson. Somethings that I would like to see change is more support given to the students as far as getting ahead in planning for college or giving us better opportunities that would help boost our chances in getting into more prestigious colleges.... Alum: I liked how there were so many ways to get involved, especially with the Ben Barber Innovation Academy. I was a part of the agricultural program and I loved being able to participate in organizations such as FFA. I liked how the district would host district-wide events such as the Multicultural Festival or the very successful Toys for Tots drive. I also liked how individual schools could host their own events such as Theater productions at the Center for Performing Arts. The high schools and middle schools offered many scholarship opportunities, as well as numerous resources for students who were falling behind or needed extra support, ultimately furthering the growth and development of the students attending the schools. One thing that I didn't like about the school district is the sheer amount of people. The classrooms and schools felt overcrowded and made it hard to focus. The downside was lack of participation in sports and fine arts. We competed against mainly one high school towns that had much higher participation and much better facilities. There are some issues with lack of easy access to information, like knowing whether you're exempt from certain exams or being aware of certain events or clubs, that I wish would be improved. At some levels there is a lot of academic pressure and cheating is relatively frequent. Senior: During my years in this school district I have meet many teachers who are very helpful and have helped me learn. There are plenty of classes that are helpful with college readiness including AP classes, dual credit, and On Ramps classes. These classes help students get an idea of college and receive college credit while doing so. In addition, you can be awarded for your academic success. They have plenty of clubs and after school programs for students. Any one is able to participate in these after school activities which I really enjoyed. Junior: Over my 11 years in Red Oak ISD, I’ve had a positive experience for the majority of my years. Throughout elementary school, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Every teacher and staff member made me feel special, valued, and important. They always catered to my different abilities and skills, and I never felt like I was being held back academically. When I went to the Middle School, it was definitely a culture shock. The whole experience was different. My teachers were okay, and the facility was for sure not at the capacity it needed to be to best serve the students, but it did the job. Half way into my eighth grade year, COVID struck, but the transition to online was super smooth and easy. Now that I’ve been at the high school for two full years, my freshman year online, the teachers have been awesome and clubs, etc, have been lovely. Senior: I moved to Princeton my freshman year and was blessed to get the full Princeton Highschool Experience from 9th grade until Senior Year. I bumped curbs a couple times growing up and gaining maturity and wisdom but the community always seems to come together and make residents feel at home and for that reason, is why logically, it was the best move my Mother could have made for me. Junior: I would say attending KISD overall was a very average experience. They have a few standout teachers mainly in the math and science departments. Outside of that, the staff is simply underpaid. This coupled with the setting of the school which is rural makes the job understandably hard. One thing I can say is that the staff does love what they do, however. Senior: So far I've really enjoyed being apart of John H Guyer high school in Denton ISD. The teachers here are amazing and really made me feel cared for and seen. After starting school here I started becoming more involved and asking more questions in class because of the amazing learning environment. Here I really feel like the teachers care about the quality of your education and the depth of your understanding of the content. While the school may be lacking a few teachers due to many teachers leaving their jobs, the ones that are still here and the ones that I've interacted with have all been nothing but kind and helpful. I also enjoy the classes here and am very greatful to have a chance to be enrolled in a real estate class where I even have the opportunity to graduate with a real estate license. Senior: I am fifteen and I hope to gradute high school this upcoming June, at a mere two years with the help of Premier High School. The experience that I have gained over the time would be just like any other, concerning the “Drama” every high school is bound to get. Concerning academic knowledge, may I say it is astounding if the student follows the procedures and understands the information given. Parent: Allen ISD has been such an amazing place for my daughter. All of her teachers have been great. School districts aren’t miracle workers and they need the support from the community in order to thrive. I had great communication with all of her teachers except one. They were quick to squash some unacceptable behavior from my daughter and a couple of her “friends”. What made the difference was that I supported their decision! Senior: Wylie has always been the most welcoming school the first time I ever stepped into a building almost 12 years ago. We have Wylie Way days where we step forward as a community and show how amazing of a school district we really are. The faculty and staff are amazing as well.
