Parent: My daughter loves Mayfield Woods. The student body is very diverse (as is the staff) and I love the community they create with their One Mayfield Days, after school activities, and other in school programs they offer. My daughter is on the morning News Team, drama department, Writers Guild, and the chorus. It is nice that students are able to build relationships with a lot of different students through the activities and classes offered. The teachers have been amazing and I appreciate them taking time during their lunches or Thursday study time to help kids with any issues they have. Parent: I have been there all throughout middle school and Julius West makes the activity's super fun. Also, my child is in 8th grade there and he has been loving the electives and activates in school and he says P.E is awesome. Alum: I was in the Humanities magnet program at Clemente! Other than the cesspool of hormones and angst that middle school usually is, I really loved and hated some things. Pros ~Field trip to NYC for Humanities magnet ~Amazing teachers, like Mr. Fleming, Ms. Sneddon, and Ms. Wrobelski ~AMAZING media center staff honestly I loved those ladies Cons ~Some teachers are really lazy ~Middle schoolers are satan ~The principal our year (Barkley?) clearly hated magnet kids. She also opened every phone call with a super annoying "this is your prrrroouud principal". Since then the principal's changed though! ~Not many clubs inside school ~If you're in the humanities magnet program it's hard to get good STEM classes, and if you're in the STEM program vice versa ~Divide between magnet and non-magnet ~Fights (between students and once with our gym teachers, it was wild) ~Parents had to get involved when the administration tried to implement systems to "control" the kids, like assigned seating at lunch... Middle School Student: Its been pretty good so far, considering I've only been in the school building for about 2-3 months before COVID-19 struck. The teachers are very nice and it's very diverse. The clubs are fun, I was at the Invent the Future club, where we went on two field trips to the Kids Museum. My only complaint (this may sound stupid) as that the food isn't great. It's close to hospital or airplane food bad but not as good as bringing your own lunch. (but the food here was a 100% improvement from the junk that is PGCPS) The teachers are amazing at this school, mainly because they feel more involved in the stuff we're learning. I'm in the 8th grade and my favorite teacher has to be Ms. Sommer, my math teacher from last year. Other than that I give this school a 4/5.... Read 7 reviews

Middle School Student: The school is so amazing. It is very diverse from the students to the teachers, there education is amazing. Every teacher I've had asked what were the best ways for me to learn. On top of that their electives are AMAZING!! From engineering science, to dance, to cooking, to orchestra's and bands! They also have lessons on flexibility, perseverance, etc. Which I find super cool. The food is actually not that bad, especially because you have a very diverse menu. I'm Vegan and occasionally I have to get school lunch, and I can eat my lunch without feeling left out or not being able to eat at all. You can choose salads, or the actual lunch. They even have snacks, and plenty of vending machine things. And the bathrooms and actually somewhat very clean, of course middle schooler's are a bit troublesome, but that just comes with it. And they provide computers for all classes which makes it easier to stay connected with your teachers from outside of school, and finish projects.... Read 8 reviews

Alum: As someone who just got promoted from Hallie Wells, I think it really did a great job in providing students with everything they could need in middle school. We've got a lot of after-school and in-school clubs here. The in-school clubs here are called Empower Hour, basically a 45-minute break during the day where you can choose what you want to do for the rest of the quarter. It provides opportunities to do so much, like getting CPR certified. With the exception of a couple of people in the P.E department, we've got excellent teachers, with one teacher winning the MCPS teacher of the year prize. We've also got amazing facilities with the comfiest chairs and excellent building design. Our sports teams are well-funded, our music department is outstanding, and the food is pretty good too. Sophomore: pretty average school. this sis my second year there and going in as a 6th grader at a new school is always hard, but the amount of pressure put on you as well is crazy and once you get into 7th grade there’s a lot less. also as an eighth grader you have to worry about which high school you’re going to....
