Senior: Charter school for Applied technologies was the school my mother wanted me to go to. When i first heard i was transferring in the middle of my 5th grade year I was not so fond of the idea, only after going and experiencing it for the next 6 years did I enjoy it. I love the teachers and the opportunities that come with the school, everybody is given a chance to prove their skills and I met a lot of my closest friends going there. Although there could be better care of what is budgeted, the school does its best to make sure kids have fun as well as learn. I would not change a thing about my story with this school.... Alum: Curtis High School offers so many different programs! I was part of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, which was extremely tough but my teachers were very supportive. They always pushed me to see my full potential as a student and I received the IB Diploma! With it, I was able to transfer credits to my college and had two general ed classes taken off my schedule. But there are so many more programs to choose from, sports to join and clubs to be involved in. In addition, the arts program is amazing! I learned so much in my drawing and music classes and was a part of the theater program. I was given so many opportunities to take part in the musicals we put together, both through acting and behind the scenes. Through my art classes, we went on many trips to see Broadway shows and Roundabout Theater workshops for no cost! Alum: I loved the many opportunities that Kingston had to offer. But how funding was distributed seemed unfair when academic clubs that were winning medals at the state and national level received less money than the sports club. There are many bathrooms available at the school yet they are often closed to prevent students from vaping which is not a helpful solution at all. Some teachers are extremely helpful and great mentors but there are others who do the bare minimum. The administration at the school do not come up with efficient solutions. For example, they had to replace the plastic signs they already put up with metal ones due to a safety hazard. Senior: I came to BCS when I was a freshman, it was a big change. I went to a catholic school with different rules, freedoms, etc. BCS was a great change! They are so welcoming and have been super supportive throughout all four years. Staff/faculty interact and know almost all the students, they are also there for social, emotional, and especially academic support. The college process has been stressful, but with the help of BCS and our college advisors/counselors, it feels like a weight lifted. They start prepping us from our freshman year where we work on mini-thesis papers, see our fellow seniors along their college journey, and interview alumni from BCS. BCS also starts helping us from the beginning of our senior year with one on one meetings where we discuss what we want to do. From there we start to look for colleges that match our wants and needs and begin the real work. BCS even includes support beyond high school, the college process is support through & through.... Alum: EPIC North has been the definition of a home away from home for me. Since 2019, I have been working vigorously hard in my academics while also making new friends and getting to know my teachers. Soon, the global pandemic hit, yet EPIC North still strived to help students like me succeed. When we returned, everything felt normal again, though it was all a blur. Soon enough, we were walking on that stage for graduation in 2023, and it was an exhilarating experience for me to receive my diploma that I have worked hard for. EPIC North has had room for improvement left and right, mainly due to low funding, so I, along many others, have joined the Student Council to help make things better, and we have organized events so that we can raise money to further help the school. Alum: I loved the connections the teachers made with the students, there are amazing teachers at SP that change student’s lives for the better.The teachers are what make it worth while, i love all the teachers i had in the short 2 years i was there. I felt like they were an extension of my own family. That being said i can’t say i love the entire staff, one of the things i hate about that school is how rude the office ladies have always been, and it’s not just myself saying this. They are nasty along with the nurse and librarian . A memory i will never forget is one of the office ladies screaming in my face my very first day at my new high school after being homeschooled for 2years because i was confused on where I needed to go. Junior: Bellport High School is, in my opinion, a decent school. Although there has been many issues with behavior of students and security/teachers, you are able to learn and are supported throughout your time here. There has been cases where I’ve felt like I wasn’t learning anything from a teacher simply because they wouldn’t teach the subject correctly or at all, yet there has also been situations where I’ve received all the guidance and help I need to fully understand a topic. Sophomore: I'm a sophomore at Townsend Harris, and my experience has been great! I really like that every year there are some school "holidays" that are special to our school only! The school was quite challenging academically since it required me to change my studying habits (I used to procrastinate a lot). The classes were nice. You could choose if you wanted to choose AP classes. But during freshman year you get automatically put into Pre-AP World History. Then in sophomore year, it's required to take AP World History. The students, teachers, and staff are all friendly! There are so many extracurriculars too, so if you're looking to do stuff in your free time there are a lot of options. Parent: This is my sons first year experience at Lavelle Elementary charter school and I must say all the teachers seem like sweethearts! Within our first month they hosted a Family back to school night where parents were able to attend with their child and meet and greet with all the teachers, find out about programs and take a peek at the classrooms and all the beautiful work the children have made. As far as safety is concerned this school is definitely secure not just because there is someone at the desk once you walk in but you must confirm identity as soon as you walk in and then again when you reach the floor you going to you need video identity prior to entering the whole wing. As a mother this is very important to know my child is secure here especially with all this craziness going on now days. Do I recommend this school ? Absolutely! Junior: my experience in wjps is astronomical, i couldn’t ask to be in a better school. wjps is a small environment with a low count of students, but this leads to better learning experiences since teachers are able to connect with students. my school partakes in walkathons as wells as many trips to benefit our newspaper and broadcast classes. this year i was able to go on a trip to a youth film festival in manhattan and it was incredibly moving, i learned about many social issues our world struggles with. teachers give many opportunities for extra credit and this helps me and my friends raise our grade when we struggle in classes. more extra credit opportunities are given since classes sizes are smaller!! i love this a school!!...
