Senior: Over the past four years my Inderkum experience has been the high school experience everyone should have the opportunity of. The diversity of the school makes it all the more welcoming for newcomers and an enlightening for those already attending. Cultures are expressed and celebrated in way that are educational and respectful, but fun and engaging! There's a wide variety of extracurriculars as well. There's something to fit many different interests/passions, or your overall goals. The opportunities here are very wide, there's room for everyone to pursue their dreams with a good support system. College readiness programs are available, along with the IB program, both can be very impactful and helpful in college applications and your overall future! Alum: While I had qualms with the administration, they are out of the way enough that it is not commonly an issue. With the teachers I had, at worse they were mediocre, but the large majority of them were fantastic, incredibly knowledgeable, empathetic and passionate. My math and Physics teachers were a large reason why I have been successful, and the students would constantly praise them for making the class better. The teachers worked hard to improve the school, which has an undeserved bad reputation. The clubs were amazing, in my tenure at the school, I saw academic clubs form and have huge academic success, winning math and science competitions that other schools had dominated for a decade. The schools' diversity split is unbelievable, one of the highest in the US. The cultural, and social clubs had a huge reach, the Christian club giving speeches to hundreds of students every month. Senior: I really liked the diversity throughout the students and faculty. I liked how much this school encouraged me to do my best, even when times were at their worst. Although there were lots of positives, a few negatives included basic aspects that would apply to most high schools. Some of the classrooms just seem very dull, along with several mean teachers. Senior: During my freshman year of digital learning it was most definitely not the typical high school experience I had anticipated, but teachers and staff were still very intentional about providing assistance and resources for students and teachers were very supportive in helping students adapt back to in-person learning. I have had some of my best teachers at Encinal High School and you will find that the majority of teachers are very dedicated to the school, students and creating the best learning experience and environment possible. You'll often find teachers will go the extra mile for students and are ready to build connections with students. Junior: Going into Sheldon High School I was naturally worried about how I'd be able to adjust to such a big change in my life from distance learning to a live in-person school. But the whole campus is very easy to navigate and the teachers for the vast majority of my classes have been really good at helping me understand the class. I've also been able to make so many lasting memories with people that I doubt I could meet if I didn't go to Sheldon. In addition to a wide variety of teachers and students, there's such a variety in classes, programs, electives, and even student clubs that makes Sheldon one of the best, and I'm very glad to be able to attend such a wonderful school. Senior: Last year was my first year at ECHS and I had shifted from a different country and I was genuinely very nervous and was scared regarding how life would be studying in a different school, I was worried about bullying ,making friends and pretty much how my overall experience would be. And ECHS has honestly helped me so much in that, all the teachers and staff that I have met are so sweet and willing to do thier best in order to help you fit in. It was hard the first few months and I knew I could always rely on the school resources such as the JMP and counseling. ECHS has created a community adhering to everyone's needs and they never fail to expand thier diversity through the form of student clubs and associations enabling everyone to feel heard and safe. Senior: I have had a good high school experience. I have had some great teachers and some not so great teachers. My mom can tell during Open House which teachers will be great and she is always right. But regardless, I have tried my very best to excel in each class. After playing about every sport in middle school, I finally settled on water polo in high school. I was never a strong swimmer but water polo has made me a "mermaid" as my mom tells me. Water polo has made me physically strong and that helped me land my first job as a swim instructor and lifeguard at the local YMCA. I am grateful that I found a sport that I love which also helped me start making money. But the best part of high school have been the friends that have made me laugh, have shared their notes and helped me with difficult subjects, and who have shared their memories with me. Senior: It's not as big as other LA high schools, so it's a tight-knit community. Everybody knows everybody, so it's nice to always have people to talk to in my classes. With most of the teachers, it's easy to tell they care about their subject, but sometimes you might end up with a few that don't so much. Our sports programs have been colossally improving over the past few years, and it's so easy to join any team that interests you. LACES is diverse and inclusive, and dozens of student-led clubs dominate. The campus is small and easy to navigate. There are color coded buildings for different subjects! There's also a quaint garden where we're starting to grow vegetables and herbs. A big loss at LACES is school spirit. It's hard to come across with no football team, so cheerleaders step in on basketball games and tennis matches. Senior: Throughout my time at Skyline High School, I have received a relatively positive review. It's located in the hills and is surrounded by beautiful oak trees. Campus is truly important to me, and Skyline's campus makes me feel welcomed and relaxed. Skyline offers many student resources, such as a College and Career Center, where students can engage in college tours and receive support about anything college-related. There's also a health center where students can come by and receive personal support for their bodies. Lastly, the Youth Center is a place where students can relax and listen to music. I've received support from all of these places, and it's super helpful. Skyline's campus culture is fascinating. We have many student leaders who make the school more fun. Our sports teams are fun to watch, and there are dozens of clubs, such as the Women Student Union, of which I'm a member. Junior: This school has such great student life! The leadership program always is planning events like dances, senior events, harvest fests, movie nights, flea markets, car shows, haunted houses, culture fairs, ect. The student body is very spirited and fun and has a great social media presence to get information out to students easily. The staff are nice and generous for the most part. Cons include cleanliness/functionality of restrooms (sometimes things are broken/overflowing/out of toilet paper/ broken stall locks/ sinks that won't stay on/ gross stuff on floors/bad smells/ only one or two open). Senior: My best experience at the school would have to be the friendships and socialization I was allowed to have. I have made amazing life long friends through the high school that wouldn’t have been possible without the school. I have also been able to better myself as a human in the social aspect because of the amount of events that we are allowed to speak at. Senior: I've been at Oakland Technical High School for the past 4 years. The school has undergone a dramatic transformation as it lacked ground security after COVID-19 and tightened it up. Ever since security has become harsher, many students have felt that the school is a "prison" because there is only one way in and out, which is the main gate. This made many students feel trapped and more likely to skip class in more devious ways. Senior: I first decided to go to CAVA at San Joaquin because I felt like continuing to attend an in person public school would not benefit my learning experience at all. Once I switched to CAVA I saw how civil the students were in the chat of our class calls. My teachers don't have any problems when teaching other than the occasional technology issues. My class work is self paced so I could proceed in my own time without having to stress about not being ahead in my class. I am more organized now and I rarely feel stressed when skimming at deadlines. My homeroom teacher even sends scholarship opportunities! However my only problem is that the teacher to student connections aren't very good but that is to be expected considering my teachers have so many students. It's hard to get one on one time with any of your mentors and it can get a bit lonely at times but there are clubs to help with that. Senior: Its a pretty great school, with a main focus on the math department and while some departments could use a bit more help, the lower priority courses still do get a bit of attention. As for student/club activities, there is a wide range of activities that you could join. As of recently water polos season has just started, and over announcements they state where the matches are and when you can come see them. Clubs are student run, and when announcements are said through out school, its often the students who will shout out there club, or put on club events during or after school. For events, North High has a fall, winter, and spring assembly where clubs/sports who are during that season can get a word in or show off there skills. An amazing example of this is advanced dance, for every assembly they put on a dance routine for every assembly.
