Senior: Robert G. Cole is a military school on Fort Sam Airforce Base. Because of its nature, the school houses some of the most respectful people I have had the pleasure of talking to. The students know what is expected of them, and they take all the opportunities the school provides. Cole is constantly changing, and it adds new classes and invites students to try many academic ventures. Teachers love what they do and share their knowledge with the students well. Here at Cole, we incorporate a "flex" system, that is to say, our schedules are flexible. On certain days and during certain periods, we are allowed to visit another teacher's classroom, which allows us to study, catch up, or just hang out. Cole prepares students for college by providing college-level classes and higher-learning clubs. Senior: There is so much opportunity and room fo explore at this school. They offer many options for kids to try and figure out what they like to do and don't like to do! The teachers care about their students a lot and a lot of resources are provided to help the students with learning. Also, there's a variety of teachers with different teaching styles! What I would change is the fact that you need to set an academic path for yourself as a freshman that determines your future years at the school. Sophomore: There are many things that I like about Basis Shavano. First off, the school provides a wide variety of classes and extracurriculars students can choose from, enabling them to enroll into classes or clubs they actually like and giving them a chance to see what their future majors could be like. Not only that, the teachers at Basis are extremely helpful and nice, making the learning experience at Basis not bad at all. Did I mention the lunches? Definitely above-average. However, if there was one thing I could change about my experience at Basis would be the homework load. Basis is the type of school that challenges students in order to prepare them for college, and this is great, but since there isn't a cap on the amount of homework assigned per class, the upper-grade students receive much more work than necessary. Junior: Health Careers High School is by far the best high school anyone can attend here in San Antonio! Theres something here for everybody. No matter who you are or who you will be, you can learn a lot from Health Careers. With challenging courses and engaging teachers, it's impossible to be uninterested in learning. Senior: My senior class of 2020 would have been the first class to complete all four years of high school and graduate since our class was the one that opened up the school back in 2016. As a brand new school, we had the opportunity to create all new and lasting traditions that would leave a legacy. Although cut short by the pandemic, the teachers I've had have undoubtedly made me the person I am today by instilling in me a strong work ethic, determination, and have a true genuine care for the well-being of their students. The relationships I've had with not only the teachers, but the students is one i'll never forget! Works Here: I am a proud teacher at SST. I have taught in other districts in the public domain, but SST is so much different. It is a family! The students who attend here are amazing. They inspire me to be a better educator. Our students have designed and created 3-D printed hands for children born with missing limbs. I am in awe of the innovative future leaders, doctors, cyber security warriors, computer programmers and other STEM professionals that attend here. These students are going to change the world! I have been part of this family for 5 years and plan to stay here until I retire. In my opinion, there is no better school out there! The administration treats the faculty with respect and I feel appreciated each day. More importantly, the administration care very much about the students, as well. Senior: Judson Early College Academy is a great school for anyone who is interested in getting a preview of the college experience. From day one, everything is designed to prepare you for not only your current college endeavors but future ones as well. However, I would not recommend this school if you want to go to a large school and participate in a large variety of clubs/extracurriculars. Or if you want to explore your academic interests because there is no variety of courses available (ex. computer science, health science, debate/law). Everyone has a set course plan for all four years. Regardless, once you graduate from JECA you will receive a Highschool Diploma and an Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts! JECA is a great experience if you're involved with student activities and take your academics seriously. Despite limited clubs, many available are student run and you can create your own club too. Senior: I honestly really enjoyed my experience at Clemens, speaking a senior now GET INVOLVED AND KEEP ON TOP OF YOUR WORK! Your experience will be so much more enjoyable spending time with people who share similar interests, and when you can have two off periods your senior year. Take journalism/join the publications! The teacher, and organization is something I am extremely grateful for. I have met some of my best friends through that program, and still talk to past graduates today. You will learn real world experience, and BEEF up your resume in ways not thought possible. Take Dual Credit classes! They are insanely better and easier than AP and the teachers are amazing (plus you will receive college credit from just taking the class). Senior: Tom C. Clark has extremely attentive advanced teachers that dedicate time for their student's success. It doesn't leave students behind and creates a network of assistance and safety that fosters the possibility of furthering one's education past graduation. The building is always clean and counselors are always available. Personally, I was zoned for a different school in NISD but chose to attend Clark because of all its merits and awards. Senior: Harlan high school is a recently opened school, so it has a very clean a new campus. Harlan does a lot of things right when it comes to academics and sports. The teachers love to be with the students and are extremely helpful to all the students. The athletic coaches are even better, they push the athletes to be not only good athletes but great people. Niche User: I started at Allison Steele in January of 2020. In March, everyone was thrown for a curveball. Due to COVID we were forced into remote learning. I was struggling doing work because of how many siblings I have. They were very understanding and worked with me and helped me to finish out that academic school year. In August, when school started back up, we were still concerned about COVID. Especially because my Grandma was moving down here, and she is high risk. Due to that I did remote learning again. I was getting work done, but not at the rate that I would if I went to school. I wasn't able to focus to the best of my ability and work to the best of my capability. The staff and teachers were very helpful and reaching out to get me to do the things that I need to do. I went back for a week in November. Parent: Great teachers. There could be better communication when it comes to letting parents and students know what to expect and what clubs and services are available. It was not until my daughter was a senior that I was made aware (by another parent) that my daughter could have been taking college classes and getting college credit. I had her join the National Honor Society and paid dues but not until graduation was I aware that it was the "wrong National Honor Society" and not the one recognized by the school. Also, I didn't realize GPA to determine in magna cum, cum, etc... was calculated in the winter. Makes no sense to not be recognized for the last semester's grades. Senior: Attending Brennan High School was an opportunity that I will never regret taking up. The access to a well-taught education, a large campus, and resources that allow for educational growth is what makes Brennan High School a good school. I was able to converse and connect with a number of students and teachers, and even share memories that some may view as monumental or historic. Our athletic and sports shine their way throughout Brennan, with our glowing football and soccer teams. The only thing I wish Brennan could change would be the student's will to learn. Learning is something I idealize, and I know that due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the will to learn has diminished for many students.
