Senior: Although I have my ups and downs in Malden High, I've made so many memorable friends and teachers that will last me a lifetime. The diversity is so rich, and how Malden in general celebrates that is incredible as I have never seen so much unity before in a city. I've changed significantly for the better, and I wouldn't have gotten the opportunities that propelled me without Malden or it's public schools (Which are amazing by the way). I can tell every day that our community loves Malden and the people in it. Senior: Lowell High School is a sprawling ever growing, ever evolving school. It may be old, but now it's rebuilding parts and adding new parts to the body from the students who asked for it, like the new gym building opening this fall the acefemics are great and entirely immersive, the diversity seems to grow even more everyday, as well as the teacher being respectful and impactful in the process. College readiness is well supplemented and has everyone ready for the college journey. Clubs and activity flers hang from wall to wall on every corridor and hallways you enter and the safety of the school are well monitored with cameras hidden amongst the entire campus as well as patrolling security guards. The administration and school culture are beyond excellent as the foods over there are constantly changing and adapting to more cultures. Sophomore: I love the diversity of the student/teacher population and how much we are able to learn about each other cultures while integrating respect for each other's faith as well as backgrounds. Academically, I feel adequately challenged and encouraged by both peers and teachers. I feel safe when I am at school and feel that I am able to approach my teachers or school faculty about any concerns I may have. In the future, I would like to see more opportunities for social interactions within the school day, as well as more hands-on learning. For example, going on field trips to witness first hand the lessons that is being taught, or to be able to gain practical insights on how the theoretical lessons we are learning applies in real-world situations.... Sophomore: The school is very diverse, including all the staff and teachers which is very refreshing to see. They offer over twenty AP courses and have about four pathways including biology and STEM. There is also a wide variety of clubs and after school activities that students can participate in. Overall, I think it is a very well-rounded school and if you're looking for something to offer you college readiness then I reccomend O'Bryant. Senior: What I like about the school is that it has a rigorous curriculum that prepares students for college. The academics are more advanced than what you would get at most schools, so students are challenged more. The teachers are also very nice and do a good job teaching the material, and are easy to reach out to if you need help. The school is also very diverse with many students coming from different nationalities. A few things I'd like to see change are I'd like to see more clubs for students to join since I feel there are not as many extracurriculars as there should be, and I hope the food quality improves since I am not a very big fan of it. CRLS offers notable arts programs and rigorous AP courses.The diversity in this school is great, with countless languages, and religions represented in our large student body. It is important to note though, that with this diversity comes challenges. Occasional instances of microaggressions, racism, and lack of forethought from administrators are some of the flaws here.The socio-economic differences are apparent, and friend groups while mainly diverse, are skewed more or less wealthy.We are politically active and kind, but like many high schools, bullying and online drama still exists. Note that pep-rally and football culture is low. Knowing the culture at places such as BB&N I am sure that Rindge is more accepting, but the academics and opportunities take more time to really take advantage of. Senior: My overall experience at Gr Lowell Regional Vocational Technical has been amazing. I made connections with my teachers, made new friends, and also be one step closer to my goals. I like going to the voke knowing I get to have the opportunity to get an education in academics and also in my field of trade; two education at once. I appreciate the staff and teachers pushing students to succeed and to believe in themselves. I remember when I was a freshman, I was a very quiet shy girl, who didn't ask for help even when I was struggling. As time passed by, I felt more comfortable reaching out for help. Help is available and people do care about you. GLTHS is a safe environment compared to other schools, like LHS. I enjoy going to the voke and I am so glad to receive my education here. Senior: This is a great school. It's a really close and tight-knit community because of its smaller size. The teachers really help the students out as much as possible, and the school really tries to push the students to perform their best academically. There are plenty of ways that students can get help if they are struggling including two after-school academies during the week, and one on Saturday. Junior: Teachers are amazing, people are amicable, food is ok. Administration, however, has made some terrible decisions without regard to the students, parents, or faculty within the past few years. The school loves to hide things from us that cannot be ignored, like hate crimes in bathrooms and random decisions they decide to make out of the blue that affect your high school career. But, aside from administration, I really like this school. Finding a group here you can resonate with is easy and exploratory is super fun freshman year. Southeastern is a vocational school, so it is preparing you for a trade in the workforce rather than going to college/s. It is difficult since, personally, I am interested seeking a higher education, and am trying the best I can to stick out. A word of advice would be to research! Junior: Boston Arts Academy is a great school to attend, especially if you are interested in the performing arts or visual arts. I am about to attend my Junior year and ill be more than glad to say that its a learning experience. I didn't get my freshman year sense school was closed because of COVID but I've learned a lot during year. It is a very hard school to attend, students have a longer schedule than other schools plus we have to work on time management sense we are being graded on both our arts and high school education. Senior: Everett High School has a very safe environment for students and everyone to express themselves, making this a very diverse place. For me, my school kept on changing their curriculum and making this school a vocational school where they focus on having their students planning their own future through their academies and pathways of different majors. This means for my own class, we are still not used to the changes in our school and weren't able to fully take that opportunity to explore the careers, compare to the younger classes, but I was lucky to be part of the Health Science Pathway. Senior: The best part of my experience had to due with athletics. First of all the first two years of high school I was a three sport athlete, football, basketball, and baseball. Playing these sports turned me into a hard working, dedicated man. They also allowed me to have an identity in the school. After becoming a starter in all three sports and eventually a captain of three my sophomore year it felt like everyone in the school knew my name and that was such a good feeling. After breaking my hip in a football game I had to make a decision whether to play football and basketball because my doctor said i couldn't play both anymore. I ended up choosing basketball which was the right decision because i got to meet not only the best coach I've ever had, but one of the best humans i have ever met in my life. Alum: I loved the teachers. They were very helpful in my academic decisions for college and graduate school. I was very involved in sports. Basketball was my favorite. The coaches were demanding but effective. Our girls varsity basketball team went to states for the first time in over 10 years! The campus is easy to navigate. The school is not very large but does have lots of signs directing you to where you need to be. I was involved with the French club. My senior year we went to Quebec. It was wonderful! Senior: The school is entirely hit or miss. A lot of the teachers that have been employed here for an extended time are highly qualified and really good people. There are a lot of great teachers, don’t get me wrong, but I do have to say they aren’t very selective when it comes to hiring newer faculty. Since the admin turnover I’ve seen a lot more student involvement in decision making. The student council is highly regarded amongst school committees, they do value students opinions. The student body is incredibly diverse, but also very, very small. You’ll generally know just about everyone in your grade at any given time. I could probably tell you everyone’s middle names. There aren’t a huge selection of AP classes, and we don’t offer IB. Also, we offer dual enrollment but it’s not at all advertised. I didn’t find out about it until recently. Alum: I'm class of 2021, I love this school. Most teachers care about students . The school administration approach is confusing to me for student opinion. There is no centralized student council with student senate for each class. And I raised many improvements, and concerns they told me go to student council, but There is no effective student representation, it is just for event planning, so that's why nothing improves. Student opinion should be important for policy making in school administration. The curriculum should be changed, every student should be required to take basic science courses and math should be taught at the same level. This school don't need to have CP, CPA level. Counselors don't have enough time for each student and discourage students taking IB Diploma. IB Diploma has many benefits. There should be IB Physics, Chemistry.
