Senior: Although I have my ups and downs in Malden High, I've made so many memorable friends and teachers that will last me a lifetime. The diversity is so rich, and how Malden in general celebrates that is incredible as I have never seen so much unity before in a city. I've changed significantly for the better, and I wouldn't have gotten the opportunities that propelled me without Malden or it's public schools (Which are amazing by the way). I can tell every day that our community loves Malden and the people in it. And that's why Malden High is so special to me: Malden high reflects the beauty of unity and hope that is present within our growing community. And I wouldn't imagine living anywhere else.... Senior: Lowell High School is a sprawling ever growing, ever evolving school. It may be old, but now it's rebuilding parts and adding new parts to the body from the students who asked for it, like the new gym building opening this fall the acefemics are great and entirely immersive, the diversity seems to grow even more everyday, as well as the teacher being respectful and impactful in the process. College readiness is well supplemented and has everyone ready for the college journey. Clubs and activity flers hang from wall to wall on every corridor and hallways you enter and the safety of the school are well monitored with cameras hidden amongst the entire campus as well as patrolling security guards. The administration and school culture are beyond excellent as the foods over there are constantly changing and adapting to more cultures. Senior: What I like about the school is that it has a rigorous curriculum that prepares students for college. The academics are more advanced than what you would get at most schools, so students are challenged more. The teachers are also very nice and do a good job teaching the material, and are easy to reach out to if you need help. The school is also very diverse with many students coming from different nationalities. A few things I'd like to see change are I'd like to see more clubs for students to join since I feel there are not as many extracurriculars as there should be, and I hope the food quality improves since I am not a very big fan of it. Junior: PART 1: If you are a parent considering CRLS and comparing it to neighboring schools such as BB&N I urge you to read through these reviews! CRLS offers notable arts programs and rigorous AP courses.The diversity in this school is great, with countless languages, and religions represented in our large student body. It is important to note though, that with this diversity comes challenges. Occasional instances of microaggressions, racism, and lack of forethought from administrators are some of the flaws here.The socio-economic differences are apparent, and friend groups while mainly diverse, are skewed more or less wealthy.We are politically active and kind, but like many high schools, bullying and online drama still exists. Note that pep-rally and football culture is low. Knowing the culture at places such as BB&N I am sure that Rindge is more accepting, but the academics and opportunities take more time to really take advantage of. Senior: My overall experience at Gr Lowell Regional Vocational Technical has been amazing. I made connections with my teachers, made new friends, and also be one step closer to my goals. I like going to the voke knowing I get to have the opportunity to get an education in academics and also in my field of trade; two education at once. I appreciate the staff and teachers pushing students to succeed and to believe in themselves. I remember when I was a freshman, I was a very quiet shy girl, who didn't ask for help even when I was struggling. As time passed by, I felt more comfortable reaching out for help. Help is available and people do care about you. GLTHS is a safe environment compared to other schools, like LHS. I enjoy going to the voke and I am so glad to receive my education here. Senior: My experience at Somerville High was pretty decent overall. I formed a bond with my fellow classmates and teachers. Virtual learning did make things difficult at first but we were able to get through it together. The counselors there were nice and helped me with my college applications. Senior: This school offered a lot of support during the pandemic. Students were able to speak about their feelings and their opinions were valued. This school made being on zoom very interesting and educational. This school has raised me well and disciplined me with understanding on why having great behavior is beneficial to you and others. It is very diverse and has a lot of students coming from Haitian decent. There are lots of African-American teachers, the students feel comfortable seeing the amount of representation. This school is competitive in sports and encourage kids to participate in gym. Students do lots of hands on projects and work outside, and gardening. Parent: I have two daughters in this school. I am very much pleased with the honors courses curriculum. Teachers are very supportive and there is abundant of resources for the students. They offer after school programs, advanced placement courses, plenty of clubs and most of the sports. The teachers are readily available by email and quick to respond to. Years back we were debating to move to neighboring communities due to the high rating of their school systems but I am glad we decided not to as WALTHAM senior high has everything to offer what other schools do and even much more. Sophomore: I think overall it's a great school for a lot of different students. It's extremely diverse and has some really amazing people. They have so many different level courses to choose from and there is certainly some teachers that will change your perspective on school. Something I love that isn't for everyone, is there isn't pressure to go to college. If you do decide to go to college they will help you every step of the way, but are very understanding if college isn't your path. My biggest concern at this school is the administration. They often don't listen to students complains about bullying or harassment by other students or even teachers and instead they discipline those who vape and drink. Although both are issues, I think that the bullying and harassment are something that are often overlooked and not dealt with appropriately. Senior: there are many amazing programs that open the door to opportunity for students. Despite some faulty areas in the school, overall it is in pretty good condition. Senior: Mystic Valley is an amazing school that offers challenging academics while also providing a plethora of resources when you need extra support. The smaller classes really allows for students to meet with teachers one-on one when struggling, and Ms. Wei in the college counseling department helps us with anything from time management to major/minor decision help. The opportunities Mystic Valley offers are as expansive inside the classroom as they are out! Senior: I moved to a different state at the end of my junior year, but I loved my time at MHS. Most of my teachers were great, and my guidance counselor was too. There were so many options and opportunities for elective classes and extracurriculars, I wish I could have done more. Definitely do not regret taking all honors and AP classes. Senior: Yeah, Lexington high school is stressful. Not necessarily because of our academics (though many of our teachers are Ivy/t20 grads) but because of the students. We’re very competitive, and there’s an external drive/stress culture depending on who you hang out with. It’s very common for us to send most of our class (even the “popular” and “slacker” kids) to top schools for their major. We have no school spirit but that never mattered to me. Not many people attend football games or care about traditional high school popularity, which is refreshing. And our school is so big that you will definitely find your crowd. Finally: yes, we’re known for our bad mental health, as expected from a top high school. But many teachers are really understanding of your circumstances, so don’t be afraid to reach out to them!
