Parent: They consistently recruited student teachers from quality colleges to work with teachers and help build students skills. They also have some great local business partnerships who come into the classroom and teach students about various careers. Students were introduced to college informational sessions which inspired them for higher achievement.

Niche User: I would do nothing different if we could do it over. This school offers us a HUGE racially diverse community, an incredible community of supportive, involved parents, a multitude of enrichment activities because they have a PTA that raises over $100K a year, a wonderful amount of family activities including Bingo, Winter Carnival, Halloween Hootenanny, Pearls Got Talent Show and rigorous academics. We have made incredible friends in a sea of wonderful children, parents and families.

TAG Young Scholars School

Middle School Student: The Talented and Gifted School for Young Scholars is a wonderful institution. I have had amazing teachers (shout out to Ms.Danticat!) that have taught me to truly immerse myself in learning. The curriculum is a rigorous one, with 8th graders required to take High school level Regents Exams at the end of their senior year. In my years there, I have only had 3 teachers that I have had a problem with. However, this school does need more funds, as we do not have any clubs other than those provided by the YMCA (which almost no one in the upper grades participates in) and sometimes the appearance of PTA funded programs such as the debate club. Similarly, the only sports are limited to girls volleyball and boys basketball. However, I believe this school is truly remarkable because of its students. The principal may be a jerk to both kindergarteners and staff alike, but the passion that students have for learning (even the lazy ones) makes my time there worthwhile.
